Setting user preferences

Users can set individual preferences for the behavior and display characteristics of the clients they use. Centralized preferences help users who want to have the same settings and customizations available when they use multiple computers. (Users who log in to web clients must use centralized preferences.

Centralized preferences are saved on a preference server. Preference servers contain the following preference forms, which are installed when you install the AR System server.

Preference forms

To access these forms through the AR System Administration Console, click User Preferences or Admin Preferences

In Remedy User Tool, if the preference forms are not present on the server or if the user does not choose a preference server, the local ar.ini file is used to determine their preferences.

If the preference forms are not installed, you can import the definition files. For more information, see Exporting-and-importing-definitions.

To restrict preferences, remove Public permissions from individual fields in the AR System User Preference form.

To use centralized preferences in web clients, specify preference servers during the mid tier installation, or specify these servers later by using Mid Tier Configuration Tool. See Configuring-AR-System-servers-that-the-mid-tier-uses.
