Troubleshooting user interface issues

When using Developer Studio, you might encounter certain issues such as Developer Studio takes a long time to import .def files or when you import or export a .def file in Developer Studio, the import process stops responding. See the guidelines described here to resolve user interface issues with Developer Studio.

Symptoms

  • Developer Studio takes a long time to import the .def files.
  • When you click any list or the All Objects list in AR System Navigator in Developer Studio, it takes 10-15 minutes to expand the list.
  • When you import or export a .def file in Developer Studio, the import process stops responding.

Scope

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

When I use a preference server, why are some preferences still stored locally?

Only the preferences supported by the preference server can be stored there. Developer Studio stores other preferences in the Eclipse workspace.

Sometimes, menu commands in the Form, Layout, and Workflow menus are dimmed (not available). How do I make them available?

This is an Eclipse limitation. The commands in these menus are available only when the corresponding editor has the input focus. When a tab such as the Properties tab has the focus, these commands are not available. To make the editor's commands available, click the editor's tab.

The tabs in my perspective are not where I want them or I can't find them. How I do fix the perspective?

When you change the layout of your active perspective by closing tabs or dragging them to different locations, you customize the perspective, and Developer Studio remembers the perspective layout when you exit it. Select Window > Reset Perspective to reset the perspective to its factory default values. When you reset a perspective, all object list tabs are closed.

When I try to start Remedy Developer Studio, it reports that my workspace is locked. How can I unlock my workspace?

If Developer Studio terminates abnormally, it might leave the workspace directory locked. Either restart Windows to unlock the workspace, or select or create another workspace when you restart Developer Studio.

Where are all the preferences from the Preferences dialog box of Remedy Administrator?

The following table lists all Remedy Administrator preferences. For the preferences that are provided in the Developer Studio Preferences dialog box, the table lists the page. For the preferences that are not provided, the table provides the reason.
