Importing, transforming, and migrating  data by using BMC Atrium Integrator

Action Request System provides data management services to enable the following:

  • Integration of external data with data residing in your BMC solution stack
  • Data migration, import, change, and export

Data integration

The Atrium data integration services are available for AR System through the Atrium Integrator adapter, an AR System Database Connectivity (ARDBC) plugin, the Atrium Integrator Spoon client, and the Atrium Integrator forms — all are installed with the AR System server. These services enable you to:

  • Gather, or extract, data from a variety of sources
  • Change and transport, or transform, data
  • Store, or load, data in one or more target locations

You can rapidly extend the scope of your data management capabilities by adding Atrium Integrator, the BMC Helix ITSM suite of applications, and the BMC Helix CMDB.

The following diagram illustrates the AR System interaction with the Atrium Integrator adapter, the Spoon client, and the Atrium Integrator forms.

Component

Description

Atrium Integrator adapter

An ARDBC plugin that receives requests for executing and monitoring jobs from the AR System server, sends them to the Atrium Integrator Carte server, then returns the Carte server results to the AR System server. Installed with your AR System server.

A GUI used to create and manage data integration jobs and transformations. Installed with your AR System server.

A web server for data integration that allows remote job and transformation execution by accepting XML files that contain the job's (or transformation's) execution configuration. Enables remote monitoring as well as starting and stopping of jobs and transformations that run on the server. Installed with your AR System server.

Atrium Integrator AR and CMDB plugins

A plugin used to import data from and/or export data to an external data store to and/or from the AR System server and/or the BMC Helix CMDB. Installed with your AR System server and BMC Helix CMDB installation.

AR System server

The AR System server.

AR System repository

Forms that store jobs and transformation definitions and log files. The Spoon client can be used to access the repository.

AR System forms

Forms that are shipped with AR System or are created by you.

Atrium Integrator ARDBC plugin front-end forms that allow job execution and monitoring on the Carte server. Installed with your AR System server.

External data

Flat files, spreadsheet files, database files, or other data that is imported or exported to or from your AR System server for data migration.

AR System permissions scheme

Access to the Spoon client application and all base vendor forms for the ARDBC plug-in is configured in the AR System permissions interface. To use the Spoon client you must connect to an Atrium Integrator repository, which resides on the AR System server. The Spoon client requires an AR System user with administrator permissions to connect. To access the base vendor forms of the ARDBC plug-in, the user's role must be a AR System UDM administrator or a AR System UDM user.
