Configuring BMC Discovery



If your BMC Service Resolution environment includes Atrium CMDB, you can use BMC Discovery to populate the Atrium CMDB.

Before you begin

  • You must have installed the constituent products.
  • You must have installed the BMC Atrium CMDB product.
  • You must have downloaded and installed the BMC Discovery product.

To configure BMC Discovery for BMC Service Resolution

  1. From the Mid Tier, open the Atrium Core Console to create a dataset, as described in To create the BMC.ADDM dataset.

  2. Using the BMC Atrium Discovery & Dependency console, add the CMDB connection, as described in Setting up a CMDB synchronization connection:

    1. Click Add CMDB connection.

    2. Set the Dataset ID to the name of dataset that you created in step 1.

    3. Enter the CMDB Details, and select Add to create the CMDB connection, as shown in the following image:

      You can see the CMDB Sync page, where you can view the status of all CMDB connections that added.

  3. To sync the devices from BMC Discovery, select the hosts by selecting the corresponding check boxes. For details about this process, see Batch and individual synchronization in the BMC Discovery documentation.

  4. Click Actions > CMDB Sync  > Sync to synchronize the discovered hosts in the CMDB that you added in step 2.

  5. On the Mid Tier, configure the reconciliation:
    1. Using the BMC Atrium Core Console, select Advance > Reconciliation.

    2. Select the dataset that you created in step 1, and start the Reconciliation Job.

  6. When the reconciliation process is finished, do the following:
    1. Log in to Mid Tier and navigate to Application > Atrium Core > Atrium Core console > Impact Model designer > Find.
    2. In the Find field, enter % to view the list all the CIs, and then click a CI.
    3. Go to BMC Asset Management to check the devices have been synced successfully in AR.

  7. When the relationships are intact in in the CMDB for the discovered CIs, select the CI and set CI property to publish me and my providers. See Enabling-BMC-Service-Resolution-on-TrueSight-Operations-Management for more information.

  8. In the TrueSight console, configure BMC Service Resolution integration.
  9. To publish the devices on TrueSight Infrastructure Management Server that are synced from BMC Discovery, run the Publish command on the TrueSight Infrastructure Management administrator console.

On impacting the CI, incident will be created in AR.
