Viewing configurations

In the Mid Tier  interface, configuration administrators and application administrators set up configurations. You can view the configurations to learn what CIs make up the configuration. The configurations can differ based on the department or users in an organization. For example, a user from the sales team can have a different configuration from a user from the IT department.

To view configurations

  1. In Mid Tier, in Asset Management Console, from the navigation pane, select Functions > Manage Configurations.
  2. In the Manage Configurations dialog box, select a configuration, and click View.
The Configuration Information form displays details about the configuration. For active configurations, you can view the list of CIs that are related to the configuration (the Related CIs tab is not active for inactive configurations).

To view configuration information for a CI

In the Mid Tier  interface, if the CI that you are working with belongs to a configuration, you can view details about it on the Configuration dialog box.

  1. In Mid Tier, open a CI, as described in Searching for tickets, assets, resources, and people in BMC Helix ITSM.
  2. In the navigation pane, select Functions > Configuration.
The Configuration Information dialog box appears. If the CI belongs to a specific configuration, information about the configuration appears in read-only fields.
  3. (Optional) To see a categorization comparison of CIs to items in the configuration, click View Differences.
  4. (Optional) To check the inventory for an item in the configuration:
    1. Click Check Inventory.
    2. In the Manage Configurations dialog box, select the item and click Check Inventory.
    3. In the Configuration Information dialog box, view the items in inventory.
