Running the license engine


In the Mid Tier interface, you run the license engine to connect CIs to the license certificates, compute compliance, associate orphaned CIs with contracts, and remove expired CIs from the system. You can schedule the license engine to run immediately, at a scheduled time, or after reconciliation. Licensing jobs run from Manage License Jobs Console. 

To run the license engine

  1. In Mid Tier, in Application Administration Console, click the Custom Configuration tab.
  2. From the Application Settings list, select Asset Management > Advanced Options > Rules, and then click Open.
  3. Click the License Engine tab.
  4. From the list, select the LIVE run tag name.
    This field is mandatory.
  5. Select the following options to specify how and when CIs should be dropped:
    1. If you want to drop CIs after their license has expired, select Drop CIs after License Expiry.
    2. Select the number of days after their expiry date when the CIs should be dropped.
    3. From the Run Engine? list, select whether you want the license engine to run.
      The default value is Yes. When you select Yes, the engine runs against both connection and compliance rules.
  6. Specify whether you want the license engine to run when a CI or certificate is changed or deleted. The default is value No.
  7. Specify whether you want to the license engine to run when a certificate is modified.
    If you select Yes, the system prompts you to run the license engine when key attributes are modified or CI associations are added or removed. The default value is No.
  8. Select whether you want to run the license engine on license release.
    If you select Yes, on reconciliation or automatic update of a license certificate, the license engine will run automatically. The default value is No.
  9. Click Save and then click Close.
