Releasing, viewing, and reserving licenses

In the Mid Tier interface of BMC Helix ITSM: Asset Management, you can reserve licenses.  To ensure that your organization has enough licenses that are not out of compliance, you reserve the licenses. By reserving licenses you reserve a specific number of licenses for use in the future. For example, if your organization has 10 Microsoft Visio licenses and you have installed Microsoft Visio on 3 devices. The 7 Microsoft Visio licenses are available. If you know that Microsoft Visio will be installed on 2 more devices, you can reserve 2 of these licenses and now you will have 5 more licenses available for consumption.

When you release the licenses, they are available for consumption again. For example, if you are consuming 5 Microsoft Visio licenses and you uninstall Microsoft Visio from the 2 devices, you can release 2 licenses from these devices, and as a result, these licenses are available for consumption.

The following BMC license types support releasing and reserving licenses:

  • Per Instance
  • Per Copy
  • Site
  • Enterprise
  • Per Server
