Creating and managing automations

By using asset automation, you can create rules to automate repetitive tasks, such as creating people relationships.

To create an automation

You can specify multiple criteria in a single automation. For example, you can use the same automation to relate People, location, and contract information for an asset by specifying separate rules for each action. The automation rules are applied to any new asset in your organization.

Important

  • You cannot edit automation rules after you save them. Make sure that you review the parameters carefully before saving a rule.
  • Automations are created in the Draft state. You must enable the automations after you create them.
  1. Go to Asset Console and click Asset automation console.

  2. Click Create automation.
  3. Enter a name for the automation.
  4. Specify the required criteria and relationships for the automation.
  5. Specify the actions that you want for this rule; for example, Relate people, Add location, Relate contract.
  6. Save the automation.
The automation is displayed in the list of automations.

To enable or disable an automation

  1. Go to Asset Console and click Asset automation console.
  2. From the list of automations, select the automation that you want to enable.
  3. Click Enable to enable an automation or click Disable to disable an active automation.
The status of the automation changes to Active after you enable or to Draft after you disable an automation.

To delete an automation

The automation must be in the Draft state for you to delete. If the automation is active, first disable the automation and then try to delete it.

  1. Go to Asset Console and click Asset automation console.
  2. From the list of automations, select the automation that you want to delete.
  3. Click Delete.
If any relationships to any asset were created by using the automation, Asset automation displays the following warning:

  1. Go to Asset Console and click Asset automation console.
  2. From the list of automations, select the automation for which you want to remove the relationships.
  3. If the automation is in Active state, disable the automation.
