Differences between Atrium Core Console and CMDB Portal

The CMDB Portal, built on HTML and Angular, replaces the Flash-based Atrium Core Console.  Features such as Class Manager, CMDB Explorer , Normalization Engine, Reconciliation Engine, CMDB Audit, Atrium Integrator, and Federation capabilities have been reimagined in CMDB Portal. However, Service Catalog UI and a few other features are not replaced in the CMDB Portal.

After upgrading to CMDB Portal, if you make any modifications to the components or configurations, you might not be able to view those changes in the Flash-based Atrium Core Console. For example, a search query that has been modified or edited in the CMDB Portal is not available in the Atrium Core Console search.

The following table lists the features in Atrium Core Console that are not available in CMDB Portal:

BMC CMDB Component

Action

BMC CMDB Portal

Service Catalog

Create a new service and service offerings and search, filter, and view services that have been defined.

Service Catalog is deprecated.

By using Service Modeling, you can do almost everything that you could do with Service Catalog. For example, you can create business services, service offerings, requestable offerings, and so on.

For more information, see Managing-a-service-catalog-by-using-CMDB-Explorer.

For fresh installations, we recommend you to use BMC Digital Workplace Advanced to create and manage services.

For more information, see Creating and managing the service catalog.

CMDB(via TSOM extension)

Service Impact Model Designer

We recommend you to use CMDB Explorer in CMDB Portal that allows to create and maintain service models. BMC recommends to leverage Discovery to automate the majority of service modeling.

Normalization

Export and import normalization configurations

We recommend you to use Data Migration to import and export the normalization configurations.

For example, when migrating from a development to production environment, you can export or import the following normalization settings:

  • Job schedules
Export or import the NE:JobSchedule form that is used to store NE job schedule information.
  • Dataset normalization settings
Export or import the NE:DatasetOptions form that is used to store dataset configuration to run NE job. This form contains options for all datasets.
  • CMDB Portal class settings
Export or import the NE:AttributesInfo form that is used to store
    class configuration.
  • Product Catalog alias mapping

    Export or import PCT:ProductCatalogAliasMappingForm
to export or import alias mapping information.

For more information, see Migrating data

Reconciliation

Export reconciliation definitions

You can export reconciliation definitions from one server and import them on another server. For more information, see Exporting reconciliation job definitions.

Atrium Integrator

Migrate Atrium Integrator jobs and transformations from one computer to another

We recommend you to use the Export Repository and Import Repository options in Atrium Integrator Spoon to migrate Atrium Integrator jobs.

For more information, see Migrating-Atrium-Integrator-jobs-and-transformations.

Class Manager

Create deprecation mappings to deprecate classes and attributes

Deprecation is not available in CMDB Portal.

Federation Manager

Create, edit, delete, and manage CMDBf classes

You cannot create CMDBf classes and plug-ins by using Federation Manager.

Tip: For faster searching, add an asterisk to the end of your partial query. Example: cert*
