User interface overview

CMDB Portal, the user interface of BMC Helix CMDB, provides a centralized platform for managing and configuring your CMDB components, offering comprehensive control and visibility over your configuration data.

Through this intuitive interface, a configuration manager can monitor the health of CIs and define health criteria, oversee normalization and reconciliation jobs, and manage datasets and data sources. A configuration manager can also manage the classes and attributes and set up logging.

Before you begin

Your administrator must provide you with AR System administrator permissions as described in Configuring-the-URL-to-access-CMDB-Portal-through-Mid-Tier for you to access the CMDB Portal.

Additionally, understand the permissions model for accessing

Overview of CMDB Portal

The following animation shows the various components of an example CMDB Portal user interface:

Accessing CMDB Portal with limited functionality

When the platform-fts-0 pod that handles all administrative requests is down, CMDB Portal is available in read-only mode. You can still access CMDB Portal to view the following functionalities:

  • Dashboard
  • List of jobs in Atrium Integrator, Normalization, and Reconciliation job consoles

However, you cannot perform the following functions:

  • Create or modify instances in CMDB such as CIs, classes, and attributes.
  • Create or run Atrium Integrator, normalization, and reconciliation jobs.

The functionality is restored to normal after the platform-fts-0 pod is available again.
