Setting up and going live
Onboarding and implementing BMC Helix CMDB
Before you make BMC Helix CMDB available to the users in your company, as a configuration manager, complete the following system configurations:
The following image provides an overview of the process:
The following table provides a list of tasks to set up your BMC Helix CMDB for SaaS users:
Task | Action | Reference |
---|---|---|
BMC - Configure product activation | ||
1 | Share system access details and user credentials. | BMC sends you an activation email that contains environment details and system information such as login URL and administrator credentials. Important: Out-of-the-box BMC Helix Single Sign-On is configured to use the user accounts within an AR System for authentication. However, if you are using SAML-based authentication within your organization and want to configure BMC Helix Single Sign-On to use that for authentication, you must submit a request to BMC Support for the BMC Helix Single Sign-On configuration with SAML. |
Configuration Manager - Perform basic configurations | ||
2 | Set up user accounts and grant access to manage and maintain the system. | |
3 | Set up Foundation data by using any of the following methods:
| |
Configuration Manager - Perform advance configurations | ||
4 | Configure Atrium Integrator and run the Atrium Integrator job to synchronize the data from external data sources. | |
5 | Discover and synchronize the data with CMDB by using BMC Discovery, BMC Client Management, MS SCCM, and so on. | |
6 | Verify and configure Product Catalog and Normalization. Run the normalization job. | |
7 | Verify and configure Reconciliation jobs, identification rules, and merge precedence rules. Run the reconciliation job to create the production dataset. |
