Automatic deployment of sample pages to the development environment

Sample pages for industry verticals and lines of business are automatically deployed to your newly provisioned development environment.

Important

  • Sample pages are not automatically deployed to staging and production environments. You can import sample pages to those environments manually.
  • The deployment is skipped in the development environment when you upgrade from a previous product version, and the sample pages are already present in the environment. However, you can manually import these sample pages into your environment by using the zip file packages.

In the newly provisioned development environment, the following changes occur:

  • Studio sample pages and new brand styles are enabled by default.
  • The ESM portal page becomes the landing home page and post-redirect page, replacing the My Activity page.
  • Both the classic keyword search and the Employee Navigator chat are available. The Employee Navigator for Helix skill is selected as the default HelixGPT skill for the chat experience. The floating icon is also preconfigured to open the Employee Navigator chat panel.

    Important
Before Employee Navigator can operate in your newly provisioned development environment, you must provision and set up the generative AI provider. If this configuration is not completed, Employee Navigator features will not work.  No additional configuration steps are required to enable Employee Navigator in a newly provisioned development environment.

  • Sample pages for lines of business and industry verticals appear in the navigation bar and the main menu on different tabs. Use this navigation to quickly browse through the pages.
  • Core application pages, such as Catalog, My Activity, Staff, and Location, are grouped on the Legacy pages tab.

When you manually import sample pages to the development or any other environment, only the sample pages themselves are added. The default landing page and the navigation bar structure (tabs and menu items) remain unchanged from the standard product configuration. They are not replaced, removed, or modified in any way.

Also, you can easily transfer studio pages from the development environment to your staging and production environments. For more information, see Exporting-and-importing-workplace-studio-pages-and-search-views.

Warning

Important

In a Managed Service Provider (MSP) setup, sample pages are deployed only to the tenant company associated with the 'hannah_admin' user. If you’ve modified and saved a sample page, and need to restore it to its original state, you can either request BMC Support to redeploy the pages to your development environment or download and import the template pack zip file.

To download and import the sample pages

The sample pages are also available as a zip file package. Perform the following steps to get the sample pages into your environment.

Before you import

  • In the Admin console, navigate to Configuration Application Features, and enable the Studio (expose pages to end users) option.
  • In the Admin console, navigate to Configuration > Attachments & Links, and make sure that the zip file type is not in the Blocked list.
  • In the AR System Administration console, ensure that the value for the Max Attach Size field is greater than the size of the templates zip file. Recommended size is 20485760 bytes (20 MB). For more information about how to set this value, see Setting administrative options.

Import the zip file package

To import sample pages into any environment, complete the following steps:

  1. Download any of the sample page zip files from the downloadable files section on this page.

    Warning
Do not uncompress the downloaded zip file before importing it.

  2. Import the zip file package as is into your environment. For information about how to import the package, see Exporting-and-importing-workplace-studio-pages-and-search-viewsAfter import, you can view the pages displayed in your pages list.

    Studio Templates List (1).png
  3. To preserve the search logic defined for sample pages, download the Search views.zip file and import it on the Search views tab in your environment.
Both the classic keyword search and the Employee Navigator chat are available in this view. The Employee Navigator for Helix skill is set as the default HelixGPT skill. For Employee Navigator to function correctly in any environment other than a newly provisioned development environment, ensure it is fully configured. If the configuration steps are not completed, Employee Navigator features will not operate. For detailed instructions, see Configuring BMC HelixGPT in the end-user console and studio pages.
  4. (Optional) If you want to use a sample page as a starting point, duplicate the page and work on the copy rather than the original.
You can duplicate a page from the page Actions menu. For more information about duplicating pages, see Managing-pages-in-the-Studio

Important
Reimporting a zip file package with sample pages overwrites the draft versions of all pages from that pack and might result in unintended loss of changes.
