Duplicating content

You can easily duplicate components and rows by copying and pasting them to maintain consistency in look and feel and save the time required to create a component from scratch. You can copy individual components or an entire row of components. You cannot selectively copy attributes of components. Use the context menu options at the component and row level to copy and paste components within rows, between rows, and between pages. You can also use standard copy (Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) keyboard shortcuts to perform these operations.

You can duplicate a page from the page Actions menu. For more information about duplicating pages, see Managing-pages-in-the-Studio.

The following image is a visual guide to creating a page and making it available to your end users, and shows the current step that you are on:

Step 4 in page creation process - copy and paste components

Important

Do not use the copy and paste options to duplicate studio components between environments. Page assets are copied by reference and can lead to broken image links, broken references, or broken structures after you copy and paste components between environments.

Always use the export and import operations to migrate studio content between environments because export and import operations ensure that all assets are migrated.

The following table describes the Copy and Paste after options:

Context menu

Description

Copy

Copy a component or a row. Select the Copy option from either the component menu or the row menu.

Component and row action menus

Paste after

Paste a copied component after the current or selected component or row. To paste a component, select the Paste After option from the component menu. To paste a row, select the Paste After option from the row menu.

If a component allows you to, you can paste components of the same type within a single row. Note that a row can be pasted only after another row.

The first time you attempt a paste operation, you might have to accept the browser prompt to allow a paste action.

Important: The Paste after option is available only in HTTPS environments. However, you can always use the keyboard shortcut to paste.

Tip: Because a contextual menu is not available on a blank page, use the keyboard shortcut to paste a component or row on a blank page.

Tip: Because of the restriction on the maximum number of components in a row, the Paste after option does not appear on the menu after the maximum number is reached.

For example, you can add only three catalog sections in a row. The following video shows you that the Paste after option is no longer available after you have added three catalog sections in a row:
