Managing an end user's profile data

End users can set up their profiles and other preferences in BMC Helix Digital Workplace. As an administrator, you might need to standardize people's profiles in the company. To achieve this goal, you can select the source of the end-user job title and profile image displayed in BMC Helix Digital Workplace:

  • Job titles are retrieved from BMC Helix ITSM.
  • Profile images are retrieved from BMC Helix ITSM or BMC Helix ITSM: Smart IT.

Also, you can manage the end-user ability to modify job titles and profile images in their user preferences.

For example, if you want to standardize people's job titles in the company, you can update job titles in BMC Helix ITSM and disable the option to update job titles in the end-user console.

Before you begin

To display an end-user job title from BMC Helix ITSM

Important

  • By default, the job title is displayed as specified by the end user in preferences.
  • The User profile data editing (work details) setting must be enabled for users to specify the job title for the first time. If this setting is disabled, the Add job title field is hidden, and users can't enter their title. As an administrator, you can enable the User profile data editing (work details) setting to allow end users to enter their title for the first time and then disable it to prevent any manual updates.
  1. In the BMC Helix Digital Workplace Admin console, navigate to Configuration > Application Features.
  2. In the Features section, select the Use ITSM foundation user job title check box.
  3. (Optional) Select the User profile data editing (work details) check box to enable end users to edit their job titles in preferences.

If the Use ITSM foundation user job title feature is enabled, the job title in preferences changes as soon as the administrator updates the job title in BMC Helix ITSM.

Scenarios of enabling end users to update the job title

The following table describes how an end-user ability to modify the job title changes after the following features are enabled the Admin console:
