Calling external workflows

To embed an external process workflow into the current workflow, drag a Call Activity element onto the canvas. Use Call Activity elements to reuse processes in different configurations.

The following illustration shows an example of a Call Activity element that triggers an imported SRD workflow.

Before you begin

Open an existing workflow or create a new workflow, as described in Exploring-the-workflow-designer.

To call an external workflow

Drag the Call Activity element onto the canvas.
With the element selected, under Element Information, select a Called Process to choose an existing workflow.
(Optional) Map input parameters to the external process if any of the elements it contains require inputs.

To view the underlying steps of the external process, double-click the element to expand the container. Select an element to view its specific properties under Element Information.

Warning

Use caution when changing workflow processes that are embedded into other workflows using Call Activity. Changes to the external process will be reflected in all workflows where the process is called.

Required licensing

SaaS subscribers who use BMC Helix ITSM or BMC-Helix-Virtual-Agent-Basic-service are entitled to this feature.
