SMSSELCT—control selection of volumes from SMS storage groups

The SMSSELCT function controls the selection of volumes from a storage group for SMS-managed data sets.

Volumes can be selected from the DFSMS-assigned storage group based on certain criteria. SMSSELCT gives you the capability of assigning a specific volume based on:

  • Best fit to a single extent on all volumes in the storage group
  • Volume with the largest percentage of free space
  • Volume with the largest single contiguous extent
  • Performance statistics that are collected by BMC AMI Storage
