MainView Explorer


Most of the views provided in this section were captured from a BMC AMI Ops windows environment, which is an extension of the standard TSO/ISPF interface.

Another method for viewing these panels is to use 

MainView Explorer

MainView Explorer

 is a client/server application with which you access 

BMC AMI Ops

 products from your desktop by using a web browser.

Using MainView Explorer, you can:

  • Display data in various chart types
  • Access data via tree navigation and EZExplorer menus
  • Create and save personal configurations
  • Execute product action commands
  • Customize the display of data
  • Display context-sensitive Help

MainView Explorer uses active icons that change appearance to indicate the status of an object. Newly added or active mainframes, systems, subsystems, and workloads are displayed in the navigation tree automatically.

The following figure illustrates an example of the DEVSTAT view captured in MainView Explorer. You can compare it with the DEVSTAT example in Using-hyperlinks, which shows the same view captured in a windows environment.

MainView Explorer has the unique ability to display a type of graphic called a Topology Graph (Chart), which represents the relationship between data in a striking, visual way. Rather than graphing numerical data, this specialized chart displays hierarchical relationships between objects. Its layout shows an array of nodes fanning out from their parents, with each node’s share of the circle calculated by using the collective weight of the nodes and all of its subnodes. It can be used with any tabular view.

To access one of the topology views from MainView Explorer, click Interval Data, which shows Topology Graph as one of its entries. Click Topology Graph to see the topology views that are available in BMC AMI Ops Monitor for z/OS. Click one of the views to see an example of a topology chart. The following figure shows the LPARSTTP chart.

The LPARSTTP chart view in the above figure shows hierarchical relationships between processor types in the system. It makes processor type the parent node. The arrays of nodes (CP, ICF, ZIIP, and IFA) are fanned out from their parents. The subnodes are the LPAR names. You can hyperlink from an LPAR name to the filtered LPARSTAT view.

You can create view containers that display multiple views and charts in one tab. The view container is similar to a screen in windows mode. The default view container, SYSVIEW, provides a basic set of system monitoring metrics. You can open SYSVIEW from the EZExplorer folder under the Configuration category, and you can build containers based on your needs by modifying SYSVIEW. The following figure shows and example of SYSVIEW:

We now have the DMNSTATR view removed from the SRM Activity field.

We now have the following views removed from the Storage Activity field:

  • ESINFO
  • PGDSTAT  
  • SWDSTAT  
  • SWPINFO  
  • SYSSUM 

We now have the WLM Work Managers node field removed and the WTA view removed from the Workloads field.              

We now have the CPSTAT view replaced with the CPATHR view in the Devices field.

We now have the WMCNVTZ view replaced with the WMCNVTR view in the WLM Monitoring field.

We now have the Workload Overview field that has the following views replaced:
