Defining dynamic thresholds

You can define dynamic thresholds for all BMC AMI Ops products. Dynamic thresholds consist of the following parts:

  • Threshold sets
  • Calendar periods
  • Threshold selections

After defining each part of a dynamic threshold, you must enable it for use, as described in Controlling-the-availability-of-dynamic-thresholds.

The basic steps to defining dynamic thresholds are:

  1. Define a threshold set:
    1. Create a threshold set definition for an element that you want to monitor.
    2. Add threshold comparisons to the definition.
    3. Enable the definition to make it available for use.
  2. Define a calendar period:
    1. Create a calendar period definition.
    2. Add time spans to the definition to indicate when the calendar period should be active.
    3. Enable the definition to make it available for use.
  3. Define a threshold selection:
    1. Create a threshold selection definition made up of threshold selection entries (pairs of threshold set definitions and calendar period definitions).
    2. Enable the definition to make it available for use.
