Implementing VLF

BMC recommends that you store your EXECs in VLF by using the IKJEXEC VLF class.

For more information about the IKJEXEC class, see the IBM documentation TSO Extensions: Customization. This topic also contains some information about implementation considerations that you should review.

Warning

Loading your EXECs from VLF is transparent to the EXEC Management application. However, EXECs stored in VLF cache cannot be tested more than once per SS session by the BMC AMI Ops Automation EXEC Testing Facility.

The first time you issue the T line command to test the EXEC, the Testing Facility gets control of the EXEC with TSO OPEN SYSPROC and the test is run. However, subsequent attempts to test the EXEC cause the EXEC to be scheduled and the Testing Facility is bypassed.

This bypass occurs because after the EXEC is read into the VLF cache, the EXEC Testing Facility is not able to get control over the execution of the EXEC.
