Adding system layers to a sysplex layer

A sysplex layer is a superset layer that contains system layers. By having organized system layers, you have more options when managing the sysplex layer. For example, you can collect all CICS objects in a single system layer and then include only that system layer in a sysplex layer and update all CICS objects in a sysplex at once.

In addition, you can include multiple system layers in a sysplex layer and update many types of objects and sets with a single action.

To add system layers to a sysplex layer

  1. From the layering wizard step LX, type ADD on the COMMAND line and press Enter to add a new sysplex layer.
  2. Enter the name of the sysplex layer (1- to 16-characters) type N ext and press Enter to move through the dialog.
  3. (optional) In the Description field, enter a 1- to 40-character description of the sysplex layer.
  4. In the Dynamic Propagate field, specify Y (Yes) or N (No).
The Dynamic Propagate field controls whether objects and sets are generated, updated, or deleted when changes are made to layer definitions. For example, if a layer object is added to a system layer which is attached to a system and Dynamic Propagate is Yes, new objects will be generated for the newly added layer object.
  5. On the COMMAND line, type ADD to add a system layer to the sysplex layer.
  6. Type S (Select) next to the system layers that you want to add to the sysplex layer.
  7. Press PF3 twice to save your selections and return to the layering wizard.
  8. Repeat this process for all sysplex layers you want to create.
