RFN SMPE installation of BMC AMI DevX mainframe products

Tip

If you are unable to use the Receive from Network (RFN) process to SMP/E install BMC AMI mainframe products, use the alternative installation method described in SMPE-installation-by-using-the-EP-media-interface.

This section contains the information to complete the SMP/E installation of BMC AMI mainframe products by using the Receive From Network (RFN) process. It enables you to receive the products directly to your z/OS environment and install them using System Modification Program Extended (SMP/E).

After you select the licensed product(s) from BMC's online ordering system, you receive an e-mail message containing a sample JCL to FTP the BMC Installer dialog PDS which has been customized to include installation information specific to your current order. Your order e-mail also includes a link to this book. The e-mail may also contain links for downloading any PC-based products that may have been ordered at the same time.

Warning

For the RFN process, always use the customized BMC Installer dialog PDS that you receive with your current order.

Your order Information is contained in a special member KCWZZZZZ and is needed to generate JCL for the Receive From Network job. If this member is not found in the PDS, the BMC Installer presumes you are not doing a Receive from Network and can only be used to generate JCL to perform the SMP/E installation of products you upload with the BMC EP media as described in SMPE-installation-by-using-the-EP-media-interface and SMPE-installation-by-using-the-ISPF-interface.

The most common Receive From Network installation is direct to the mainframe, but not all sites can.

Review Overview before proceeding with the remainder of this section.

The installation process utilizes System Modification Program Extended (SMP/E). For more information about this type of installation, consult the IBM SMP/E Reference or the IBM SMP/E User's Guide.
