WH – Warehouses

This option is used to define, maintain, and view warehouses. Warehouses are used to store component versions and their respective parts.

Adding and Maintaining Warehouse Definitions

Type A on the Command line to add a new entry or S to select an existing one. The screen in the following figure is displayed.

Field Descriptions

The following table describes each of the fields that can be entered.

Field Descriptions

Field Name

Description

Warehouse

The logical name of the Warehouse. This must be a unique name.

CT Server Name

The name of the Component Transport Server Name as specified in M.HS.

Allocation Type

Currently only Allocation Types of MVS are supported. Future releases of ISPW will support warehouses on other platforms.

Description

Descriptive information used to identify the warehouse.

Dataset Prefix

This specifies the HLQs for the Storage dataset. Datasets will be named as follows:

'Thisprefix.Warehousename.StorageID.WPDS'

The StorageID will be determined by ISPW.

Management Class

The rest of the parameters are standard allocation parms for MVS datasets. Consider specifying large space to limit the number of datasets that ISPW will create.

Storage Class

Volume Serial

Device Type

Data Class

Space Units

Primary Quantity

Secondary Quantity

Warehouse Datasets

After a Warehouse is defined, no warehouse datasets are created until they are needed. Information about the datasets ISPW has created is available by entering N from the main WH screen.

Field Descriptions

The following table describes each of the fields on the screen.

Field Descriptions

Field Name

Description

Warehouse

The logical name of the Warehouse.

StorageID

This is ISPW’s logical name for the physical warehouse storage name. ISPW will create these as it needs more space.

Storage Name

The physical storage identifier. For a warehouse on MVS it will relate to a PDSE dataset.

Status

This can be Active, Full, or Unavailable:

  • Active indicates that it is available for the storage of software objects.
  • Full indicates that the physical storage name is full. ISPW will not attempt to store any more software objects in it. If ISPW deletes an object from this storage name, it will set the status back to Active.
  • Unavailable indicates that this storage name is not to be used to store away any more software objects.

Drain is used to empty a warehouse dataset and have the members moved to another. This is sometimes useful if there are many underutilized datasets to consolidate them.

Entering M against the Storage Name will toggle the status between “Unavailable” and “Active”.
