Log in to an HCI connection

You have to log in if you want to perform any action in the HCI connection or if you want to search for data sets. You can log in to the HCI connection in the following ways:

• using the Log In option
• using the command palette
• using the smart card option

To log in to an HCI connection by using the login option

1. Right-click the HCI connection and click Log In.
   The Log In to HCI Connection panel is displayed.

2. Enter the user ID and password and press Enter. A successful login message is displayed if the user ID and password are correct. If the user ID and password are incorrect, a notification message is displayed for a failed login.

   Important

   If you have stored the credentials but for any reason such as the credentials being expired, revoked, or wrongly specified, those credentials don't work then you will be prompted to enter your user ID and password. If you have logged in successfully with the updated credentials, you see a prompt asking to store credentials. On clicking Yes, your credentials will be updated. You will be automatically logged in without prompting for any future login attempts. On choosing No, credentials won't be updated. 

   If you have not stored the credentials you will be prompted to specify your user ID and password. You see a prompt asking if you wish to store the credentials. When you wish to save the credentials, your credentials are updated. You will be automatically logged in without prompting. 

To log in to an HCI connection by using the command palette

1. From the menu bar, click View and then click Command Palette. You can also press Ctrl+Shift+P to open Command Palette.
2. In the Command Palette, start typing Log In. You can view Workbench Explorer: Log In to HCI Connection command in the list.
   
   

3. Select Workbench Explorer: log in to HCI Connection.

   Important

   Log In through the command palette covers the following scenarios:

   • If you have not created any HCI connection and try to log in, DevX Explorer prompts with the error message No HCI Connection Exists and shows the Create HCI Connection option. You can click Create HCI Connection to create an HCI connection.
   • When a single HCI Connection is present, the connection would be established with the present HCI Connection.
   • When multiple HCI Connections are present, you can view the quick pick with the list of inactive connections. You can select the required HCI connection.
     
4. Type your user ID and password and press Enter. A successful login message is displayed if the user ID and password are correct. If the user ID and password are incorrect, a notification message is displayed for a failed login.

To login to the HCI connection using the smart card option

1. Right-click the HCI connection that you have created where you have used credential provider as X.509 certificates and click Log In.
   All the certificates are displayed those are installed in your certificate manager.

   Important

   When you have (Elliptic Curve Cryptography) certificates or non-RSA certificates installed in your Windows personal stores, you have to temporarily take back up and remove ECC-based certificates from windows stores and re-install after the use of the extension or use username password mode of authentication.

2. Select a valid certificate and press Enter.  If the selected certificate is valid for smartcard login, you will get logged in successfully. Else, an error message is displayed.
