Viewing monitoring exception reports
If monitoring is turned on for a database, PCP produces a Threshold Exception Statistics report each time you check the pointers in this database.
The report is saved in the PDX data set and is also included in the SYSPRINT output from the pointer checking process.
You can use the ISPF interface to view exception reports for databases that are flagged as having exception conditions. The database has an exception condition if, during the last PCP execution, the current deviation (calculated from the current value of the statistic and the established base value) for any monitored items reached the threshold.
The Monitor Report Summary panel lists all DBDs for which monitor reports are stored in the PDX. When you select a threshold exception report for viewing, the panel shows the base values and deviations as they are currently defined for the DBD. If you change the base values, deviations, or monitoring flags, PCP uses the changed values to determine whether an exception condition exists in the database. You can view both database monitoring exceptions and space monitoring exception reports using this process. See Monitoring-space-statistics for information about space monitoring.
The following general procedure outlines how to view database and/or space monitoring exception reports:
- Access the BMC Software IMS DBU Product Selection Menu.
- Type s next to Data Integrity Products.
- Press Enter.
- Select option 1 to access the PCP primary menu.
- Type or verify the IMSID associated with the monitoring reports. Select option 5 to access the Monitor Features menu.
- Select option 5 on the Monitor Features menu. PCP displays the Monitor Report Summary panel.
- Type S to the left of the IMSID and DBD for which you want view exception reports. PCP displays the Monitor Report Summary for IMSID DBD panel.
- Type S to the left of the report you want to view. PCP displays the Monitor Report panel.
The following sections discuss the exception report panels in more detail. See Using-the-ISPF-interface for information about the BMC Software IMS DBU Product Selection Menu, the PCP primary menu, and the Monitor Features menu.
