Cloning IMS Databases


Use the following procedure to clone a database.

  1. On the Database Director Management Interface menu , type 1 on the command line and press Enter.
  2. On the DBD Member Name Mask pop-up:
    • Verify that the database that you want to reorganize or clone is in the production DBD library listed (If the database is in another library, change the name by typing over the name that is displayed.)
    • Specify the mask that you want to use to filter the list of databases (For example, specify * to display all of the databases in the library.)
  3. Press Enter.BMC Database Director for IMS displays a message indicating that it is building the list of databases and then displays the Database Director Database List panel.
  4. Either:
    • Type J in the select field for the database and press Enter.
    • Type J dbname on the command line and press Enter.
  5. On the JCL Generation pop-up, type 4 and press Enter.Database Director generates and displays the JCL in the ISPF Editor.
  6. Review and submit the JCL.Database Director submits the job and:
    • Clones the database
    • If the database has any logically related database, clones the logically related databases and ILDS data sets for HALDB databases
    • If you have enabled BMC Application Director for IMS, Database Director also suspends and resumes the IMS BMP, DLI, and DBB batch jobs during the appropriate location during the process
    • Redisplays the Database Director Database List panel
    • Generates a report that contains details about the processing for the job
  7. To review the reorganization or clone as it occurs, locate the following data sets:
    • NSOPRINT
    • NSOPRLOG

 

Tip: For faster searching, add an asterisk to the end of your partial query. Example: cert*
