The following table lists the user roles for High-speed Apply Engine and describes their typical tasks:

RoleDescription
System programmerAs the system programmer, you install and maintain the operating system and install, upgrade, and maintain High‑speed Apply Engine and related infrastructure components that run on the system.

To install and maintain High‑speed Apply Engine, your user ID must have the following permissions:
  • Allocate and manage product libraries and installation data sets.
  • Add the High‑speed Apply Engine load library to an APF-authorized library.
  • Update STEPLIB or JOBLIB concatenations and system configuration members as required.
  • Read, write, and run access to SMP/E target and distribution libraries.
  • Submit and manage JCL for installation, maintenance, and upgrades.
Security administratorAs the security administrator, you work with the system programmer to plan and implement security for High‑speed Apply Engine by using an external security manager (for example, RACF). You define user IDs, manage access controls, and ensure compliance with enterprise security policies.

Your user ID must have the following permissions:
  • Add, edit, and delete ESM (RACF, ACF2, or Top Secret) user profiles.
  • Grant access to product libraries, configuration files, and runtime data sets.
  • Define and maintain resource classes and profiles for program execution and data set protection.
  • Review security‑related audit information when required.
Db2 Database Administrator (Db2 DBA)As the Db2 DBA, you configure and use High‑speed Apply Engine to apply database changes, migrate data, and support Db2 recovery processing. You create apply requests, define configuration files, manage restart tables, and review apply results (any user can run an apply job as long as they have the required insert, update, and delete privileges on the target tables).

Your user ID must have the following permissions:
  • Db2 privileges to insert, update, delete, or define objects in the target database.
  • Authority to create and access restart tables in Db2.
  • Permission to submit batch jobs that run High‑speed Apply Engine.
  • Read and write access to input, output, log, and conflict data sets.
Db2 system programmerAs the Db2 system programmer, you support the Db2 subsystem environment in which High‑speed Apply Engine runs. You ensure that required Db2 resources are available and assist with performance tuning and recovery‑related considerations. Your user ID must have access to the Db2 subsystem configuration and visibility into Db2 thread, connection, and resource usage settings.
System operator

As a system operator, you monitor batch jobs and system messages generated by High‑speed Apply Engine. You identify failures or abnormal conditions and notify the appropriate technical teams. Your user ID must have Read access to job output and system message logs and no administrative or configuration permissions are required.
