Roles and permissions
The following table describes the mainframe roles that are referenced throughout the documentation.
Role | Description |

z/OS system programmer | In a z/OS environment, the System programmer performs specialized activities such as configuration, installation, and maintenance using SMP/E and vendor software installation. |
Security administrator | In a z/OS environment, the Security administrator creates the groups, user IDs, and resource profiles for your product configuration. The security administrator is also responsible for security software installation, deployment, setup, management, and resolving issues that affect the system security infrastructure. |
UNIX Systems Services (USS) system programmer | In a z/OS environment, the USS system programmer performs tasks related to the USS environment, such as setting up security privileges and defining and maintaining file systems. |
Network administrator | In a z/OS environment, the Network administrator is responsible for network design, hardware selection, creating and maintaining local customization (for example, user exits), and network definitions required for software installation and setup. |
CICS system programmer | In a z/OS environment, the CICS system programmer is responsible for system software installation, deployment, setup, management, and resolving issues that affect the CICS Transaction Server environment. |
Websphere system programmer | In a z/OS environment, the WebSphere system programmer is responsible for system software installation, deployment, setup, management, and resolving issues that affect the WebSphere Application Server (WAS) runtime environment. |
Database administrator (DBA) | In a z/OS environment, the DBA is responsible for database object installation, deployment, setup, management, and resolving issues that affect the application data layer. |
