Creating authentication tokens

The BMC VaraLogix Q Deployment Automation authentication token enables you to access the RESTful web API interface. You can also authenticate to the RESTful web API interface without the authentication token, by specifying user name and password.
However, to be able to execute any commands, you must specify the authentication token on the system server.

Authentication tokens

Authentication tokens are generated in the BMC VaraLogix Q Deployment Automation user interface (System > API Tokens) with a unique ID that REST-based requests use to access the API. The token represents a user account. You can create and disable them in the user interface.

Note

If you are using Active Directory or LDAP for user accounts, the specified user must have logged into the user interface before the account is considered a valid user account.

To create an authentication token

  1. Click the System tab.
  2. Click API Tokens on the left.
  3. After the list of existing tokens, click New Token.
  4. From the User list, select the user account to use for the API requests.
  5. For the Expiration Date, select the date when the token should expire.
  6. For the Expiration Time, select the time when the token should expire.
  7. Click Create to create the API token.
