Creating an event   class

Add an event class to an application class event catalog to create an event type unique to the class, set up event-driven processing and associate notification, messaging, and escalation actions to events. Creating an event class involves defining the event class, adding event class commands, and supplying expert advice. You add a new event class to an application class using a PATROL Developer Console.

Tasks for adding an event class

The following table lists the required and optional actions performed to create an event class.

Event class property dialog boxes

When you create a new application class, the properties are defined using the application class dialog box in both Windows and UNIX. The following figure shows both the Windows and UNIX application class dialog boxes.

Even though PATROL Console platforms have different interfaces, the properties are the same for both platforms. The event class properties are grouped and discussed in the following logical groups.

  • General
  • Commands (Escalation, Notification, and Acknowledge)
  • Expert Advice
  • Description

The tasks in the following sections show you how to add an event class to the PATROL environment using the PATROL Developer Console for Windows and UNIX. For more information on using the PATROL Developer Console for Windows, see the PATROL Console for Microsoft Windows Volume 3 User Guide. For more information on using the PATROL Developer Console for UNIX, see the PATROL Console for UNIX User Guide.
