Installing BMC TrueSight Report Engine with Oracle database

This section provides installation information for BMC TrueSight Report Engine, with Oracle as the Reporting database. You must install BMC TrueSight Report Engine on a computer different from the one on which SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise will be installed.

Before you begin

Before installing the Report Engine, ensure that:

  • You are logged in as an administrator (Windows) or a root user (Linux/Solaris) on the host on which you are installing.
  • You have installed BMC TrueSight Infrastructure Management Server and the Oracle database on different computers.
  • You have access to the installation files.
  • You have created tablespaces and a user for the Oracle database.
  • If you are installing more than one Report Engine, ensure that you install the Report Engines one after another instead of installing them simultaneously.

To install BMC TrueSight Report Engine on the first computer

  1. Navigate to the Reports/ReportEngine/platform folder, where platform is Linux, Solaris, or Windows.

    Note

If there is not enough space in the temporary directory, the system prompts you to select an alternate directory. On UNIX-based computers, you can set the IATEMPDIR environment variable to an alternate directory which has enough space.

    • For Windows, double-click ReportEngine9.6.00_bbuildnumber.exe.
    • For Solaris, at the command line, run the following command: sh ReportEngine9.6.00_bbuildnumber.bin
    • For Linux, at the command line, run the following command: ReportEngine9.6.00_bbuildnumber.bin

      Note

For Solaris and Linux installations, the installation file supports only the graphical user interface (GUI) mode, not the console or silent mode.

  2. In the Welcome page, click Next.
  3. In the License Agreement page, click I agree to the terms of the license agreement.
  4. In the Feature Selection page, select the appropriate features that you want to install.

Selecting the BMC TrueSight Report Engine Installation check box selects both the Install BMC TrueSight Report Engine 9.6.00 and Import universe and reports 9.6.00 check boxes.

    Note

When you select the Import universe and reports check box, it imports the BMC TrueSight Infrastructure Management universe and reports into the SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise automatically. It eliminates the manual process of importing them into SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise. If you are installing BMC TrueSight Report Engine for the first time, BMC recommends you to import the universe and reports automatically.

  5. In the Database Selection page, select Oracle Standard Edition or Oracle Enterprise Edition and provide the necessary information using the values that you populated in the Planning sheet for installation and configuration, and click Next.

    Note

If you have Oracle Enterprise Edition without partitioning, select the Oracle Standard Edition option and provide Enterprise Edition database details.

  6. In the BMC TrueSight Report Engine Database screen, enter the following information:
    • Fully-Qualified Database Host Name: Oracle database host
    • Port: Oracle Server instance port number (by default, the port number is 1521)
    • Database SID or Service Name: Oracle database SID or service name.
    • Database Login: the login name for the Oracle database you have created.
    • Database Password: password for the Oracle database you have created.
    • Confirm Database Password: password for the Oracle database you have created.
  7. Click Next.
  8. In the Time Zone Selection page, select an appropriate time zone, and click Next.
  9. In the Directory Selection page, accept the default directory or select a different directory to install BMC TrueSight Report Engine, and click Next.
  10. In the BMC TrueSight Infrastructure Management Server Registration page, enter the following information:
    • BMC TrueSight Infrastructure Management Server name—enter the name of the BMC TrueSight Infrastructure Management Server.

      Best Practice

On the BMC TrueSight Infrastructure Management Server Registration page of Report Engine installation wizard, ensure that the entry for BMC TrueSight Infrastructure Management Server name is BMC TrueSight Infrastructure Management Server logical name. This logical name is the value of the NGP_Server_Name property in the BMCTrueSightIMServerInstallDir\pw\custom\conf\pronet.conf file. You must add the exact value of the NGP_Server_Name property to join performance and event data.

    • BMC TrueSight Infrastructure Management Server cell name—enter the name of the BMC TrueSight Infrastructure Management Server cell.

      Note

Provide the cell name of the same BMC TrueSight Infrastructure Management Server which you want to register.

    • Select the BMC ProactiveNet database type:
      • Sybase
      • Oracle
      • Oracle RAC
    • Fully qualified BMC TrueSight Infrastructure Management Server database host name—enter a fully-qualified database host name.

      Note

When selecting Oracle RAC as the database type, this field name changes to BMC TrueSight Infrastructure Management Server Database RAC URL. Copy the complete RAC URL for the BMC TrueSight Infrastructure Managemen database from the tnsnames.ora file located
at %ORACLE_HOME%\NETWORK\ADMIN on a Windows platform and at $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin on a UNIX or Linux platform.

    • BMC TrueSight Infrastructure Managemen database port—enter a database port. Default for Sybase is 2638. Default for Oracle is 1521.
    • BMC TrueSight Infrastructure Managemen database SID or service name—enter a database name. For Oracle, enter Oracle_SID.
    • Database login—enter the database user name. The default Sybase user name is dba.
    • Database password—enter the password for the database user.
    • Confirm database password—reenter the password.

      Note

If you are installing a second BMC TrueSight Report Engine instance, use the same database created for the first BMC TrueSight Report Engine instance.

  11. In the BusinessObjects Information page, provide the necessary information using the values that you populated in the Planning sheet for installation and configuration, and click Next.

    Note

If you deselect the Import Universe and Reports checkbox on the Feature Selection page, the BusinessObjects Information page is not displayed. Post-installation, you can import the BPPM_DataMart_96 universe file manually using the steps described in Manually-importing-the-BMC-TrueSight-Infrastructure-Management-universe-and-reports-into-supported-SAP-BusinessObjects.

  12. In the Installation Preview page, click Install

    Note

If you have BMC Impact Manager version earlier than 9.5.00, ensure to add the following entries in the gateway.reportengine file located in the BMCProactiveNetServerInstallationDir\pw\server\etc directory and restart BMC Impact Manager before proceeding with the installation:

    add.new=[cell_name=$CNAME]
    add.mod=[cell_name=$CNAME]

The installer begins the installation process.

  13. Click Done.

Note

After installing the Report Engine, configure the BMC TrueSight Infrastructure Management cells for event and impact reporting. See Configuring-BMC-TrueSight-Infrastructure-Management-cells.

To install BMC TrueSight Report Engine on the second or subsequent computers

Note

You do not have to create a tablespace and a database user for the second or subsequent computers because, the other instances of Report Engine use the same database user.

      Note

The Time Zone selection page is not displayed when you install the second (or multiple instances of) Report Engine.

    • Directory in which you want to install the product.
    • BMC TrueSight Infrastructure Management Server registration details. You can register BMC TrueSight Infrastructure Management Server version 9.6.
