Preparing for upgrade
To upgrade TrueSight Operations Management Report Engine, you must be an advanced user with good technical understanding and expertise in using TrueSight Operations Management Report Engine. To perform the upgrade, BMC recommends that you are an experienced administrator/user with the following skills:
- Knowledge of all the Report Engine components
- Knowledge of network connectivity and communication protocols
- Experience as a database administrator depending on the database that you use.
The following sections describe the prerequisites that you must perform before you upgrade TrueSight Operations Management Report Engine.
General prerequisites and recommendations
The following general prerequisites and recommendations help you in a seamless and smooth upgrade:
- Back up the installation directory of Report Engine.
- Close all the files, folders, and CLI commands that might be open in the current session.
- Close all open user sessions on the host computer.
- Upgrade the operating system to the supported version. Review the system requirements.
Upgrade the database to the supported version. Review the system requirements.
- Back up the database. If you use Oracle database as the database, you must back up the Oracle database schema. It allows you to restore the database without any loss of data if the upgrade fails, and if SQL Server as the database, you must backup the database. - Ensure that you have sufficient disk space and free space in tablespaces to store the database.
