Managing and editing multiple messages
In addition to editing single messages, you can also manage and edit multiple messages, as described in the following steps.
- In the message browser pane, select the messages you want to edit by selecting the check box in the Select column. Note that you can change the selected messages, if required, in Step 3.
- From the Messages toolbar, select Details from the Operations drop-down menu.
- Ensure the correct message index or indexes are displayed in the Message index(es) box. You can enter individual indexes (for example: 2, 4, 10, 12) and/or select a range (for example: 10-15). By default, if no messages were selected, the displayed window includes all indexes (for example, 1-23).
- Select the Converted check box to convert all of the selected messages using a different codepage or CCSID 500, such as EBCDIC, into an ASCII-based character set (by default, messages will not be converted).
- Click Fetch. All the selected messages are listed in the displayed window, as shown below (you may need to scroll down to see the complete list).
- Edit the messages as required.
Note that you can also filter the displayed messages in a number of ways.- From the Selected Content Tab drop-down at the top of the window, select from Text, Binary, XML, or Formatted. All messages will then display the selected content tab.
- Select the relevant option from the Selected Format drop-down to display all the messages in the same format.
- Use the filter field in the upper right to filter displayed properties by entering a pattern matching relevant message properties. For example, enter Data if you are interested in the message data field, or Date to display the messages according to their date.
From the Summary menu at the top of each message, perform any of the following options:
- Copy the message to the message clipboard.
- Copy or move the message to a queue.
- Save the message to a file (by default the message will not be converted; select the Convert Message Data check box to convert the message).
- Delete the message.
You can also select or clear the Converted check box for that specific message, as required.
- Click the Put message icon for each message you edit to save your modifications.
