Managing durables


Durables are subscribers to messages that are guaranteed receipt of messages no matter when they are sent. Messaging systems are default-configured such that subscribers can only receive designated messages when active.

Messages are stored on the server for as long as durable subscribers exist for the topic or until an expiration time or storage limit has been reached.

Whenever an application restarts and recreates a durable subscriber with the same ID, all messages stored on the server for that topic are delivered to the durable subscriber.

Select Durables from the Navigation Panel to display the Durables Summary View:

Operations available:

  • Copy As New Durable: Copies the selected durable. You can also create a new durable, as described below.
  • Purge: Purges durable of messages.
  • Delete: Deletes the durable.
  • Tag Durable: Adds the durable to a tag.
  • Audit: Lets you view the last related (10) audit log entries and access audit events related to the durable, such as a record of changes made previously to the selected durable.

To access the selected Durable's Properties Editor, click on the Durable Name.

Creating a new durable

To create a new durable for any TIBCO EMS server:

  1. Select Durables from the Server objects in the Navigation Panel.
  2. Select the New bmm_AddIcon.png icon.
  3. In the displayed Properties for New Durable view, set all required fields as indicated. Refer to TIBCO EMS documentation for field descriptions as needed.
  4. Save changes and the new durable is displayed in the Durables list.
