8.0.00 features

This topic describes the key features in version 8.0.00 of the BMC TrueSight Middleware Administrator product.

New features and changes

Rebranding and refactoring

The product has been rebranded and refactored; 'BMC Middleware Management-Administration' is now 'BMC TrueSight Middleware Administrator' and has received a modernized, fresh and consolidated UI conforming to BMC's new standards. Its services and overall functionality have been reworked to be more efficient and more secure.

Enhanced browser support

BMC TrueSight Middleware Administrator 8.0 now provides support for Internet Explorer 11 and Chrome.

Direct execution of MQSC commands

BMC TrueSight Middleware Administrator 8.0 enables privileged users to run MQSC commands on a queue manager or on multiple queue managers simultaneously from the MQSC Console either by entering these commands manually or by uploading and executing MQSC command scripts. Product administrators can grant individual users access to this console so they can access and use it for every project to which they are assigned without requiring the administrator to change permissions or make any adjustments in the assigned projects.

New user-defined layouts

BMC TrueSight Middleware Administrator 8.0 enables users to customize summary views according to their needs and to create and maintain re-usable layouts. Users can now select the level of detail available in their views and can select the way it is presented by specifying the order and width of the view's columns. Users can exchange their customized views with colleagues by exporting their layouts and distributing them to others or by receiving layout definitions and importing them for their own personal use.

Enhanced IBM WebSphere MQ support

BMC TrueSight Middleware Administrator 8.0 implements full support of WebSphere MQ 8 and provides enhanced access to WebSphere MQ objects and functions.

BMC TrueSight Middleware Administrator now enables product administrators to:

  • Set up connections to queue managers leveraging the WMQ 8 Connection Authentication functionality (from 7.2.00 Hotfix B)

BMC TrueSight Middleware Administrator now enables users to:

  • View, edit and administer Cluster Topics
  • Delete Authority Records
  • Refresh Queue Manager Security for all supported security types
  • Refresh Cluster Queue Managers
  • Reset Cluster Queue Managers
  • Stop channels by selecting the mode and stop state (from 7.2.00 Hotfix B)
  • View and alter new object properties introduced with WebSphere MQ 8
  • Export and import Channel Authentication Records (from 7.2.00 Hotfix B)

Enhanced auditing

The Audit Log in BMC TrueSight Middleware Administrator 8.0 provides enhanced details about changes made to middleware objects or messages so users and administrators can compare the original value with the new value for the object or message property.

The ability to query the Audit Log has been improved so users can search audit entries by an object's name.

Support for MQSC-formatted queue manager backups

BMC TrueSight Middleware Administrator 8.0 now allows users to export and download archived queue managers in MQSC format, in addition to the previously supported proprietary XML format. This feature helps ensure that all queue managers are recoverable in the event of a catastrophic failure and the resulting scripts are easily used both inside and outside of BMC TrueSight Middleware Administrator (for example, with the WMQ runmqsc command interface).

Custom message format viewer

BMC TrueSight Middleware Administrator 8.0 helps customers to enable their users to better read the content of unreadable messages originally formatted for other more technical needs or requirements (for example to use a very compact data format or a representation suited for processing the data within an application). BMC TrueSight Middleware Administrator provides an API for customers to write their own message formatters and to associate them to BMC TrueSight Middleware Administrator. Product users can then access and use these formatters to transform messages into a human readable format when working with messages from within BMC TrueSight Middleware Administrator.

This feature was introduced with 7.2.00 Hotfix B.

Secure access to message content or headers

BMC TrueSight Middleware Administrator 8.0 now enables product administrators to secure access to messages on a fine and individual level beyond the general permission to READ or WRITE messages as a whole. For example, product administrators can prevent users  from reading security-relevant message content while still being able to read all message headers relevant for the BMC TrueSight Middleware Administrator user's working context. Conversely, users can be denied write access to well-defined parts of the message so they may read messages but cannot modify message content or specific header information.

This feature was introduced with 7.2.00 Hotfix B.

Ability to import or export WebSphere MQ objects to multiple queue managers simultaneously

BMC TrueSight Middleware Administrator 8.0 provides enhanced import and export capabilities to improve efficiency and productivity. BMC TrueSight Middleware Administrator users can now import WebSphere MQ objects into multiple queue managers or export from them simultaneously. Users can also easily distribute objects from one queue manager to another by exporting selected objects directly into multiple target queue managers.

Ability to manage objects on multiple WMQ queue managers or TIBCO EMS servers simultaneously

BMC TrueSight Middleware Administrator 8.0 enhanced the Manage Objects functionality to apply to multiple WebSphere MQ queue managers or TIBCO EMS servers simultaneously. This enhancement enables product users to apply the same changes to objects or execute object operations. For example, they can start or stop channels, or clear or purge queues on multiple destination queue managers or EMS servers through one request, without having to repeat the same steps for each queue manager or EMS server.

CSV export of middleware objects

BMC TrueSight Middleware Administrator 8.0 now enables users to export middleware objects as displayed in a summary view into a CSV-formatted file. This feature enables users to process and use this information in external applications, such as Microsoft Excel.

This feature was introduced with 7.2.00 Hotfix B.

BMC TrueSight Middleware Administrator 8.0 provides access to online documentation that is updated regularly. For convenience, PDF documents are still included.
