Enabling and accessing global thresholds on TrueSight console

To enable global thresholds on the TrueSight console the Solution Administrator must do the following activities:

Import the Infrastructure Management Repository. For details, see importing the Infrastructure Management repository.
Result: The GlobalThresholds page shows the list of all the monitoring solutions.
The base and extended repositories to be imported are:
- BMC TrueSight Infrastructure Management Base Monitoring Installation Repository
- BMC TrueSight Infrastructure Management Extended Monitoring Installation Repository
Add the Infrastructure Management Server. For details, see steps to adding TrueSight Infrastructure Management Server as a component.
Result: Global Thresholds is shown under the Configuration menu.
Authorize the TrueSight console user responsible for managing the global thresholds to have access to all those monitoring solutions for which global thresholds are to be managed. For details, see authorization profiles

Assign the following permissions to a TrueSight console user:

Note

For some default user groups, such as Supervisors the following TrueSight Presentation permissions are enabled by default. However, you must enable these permissions if you created a custom user group or if the default user group assigned to the user does not have these permissions enabled by default.

Accessing global thresholds on TrueSight console

Solutions Administrator or Tenant Administrator and any other user with access rights to the thresholds management alone can access the Global Thresholds.

Log into the TrueSight console.
Navigate to Configuration > Global Thresholds to view the Global Thresholds page.
Navigate through the various sections of the page to understand the view.

Understanding global thresholds view

The following diagram shows the Global Thresholds view after it was enabled by the Solution Administrator. The following table introduces the sections, fields, and options that are available in the view for managing the global thresholds:

Toolbar	Search: Click to enable the search box. Refresh: Click to refresh the global thresholds view. Expand and Collapse Filters: Click to show the Enabled and KPI filters or click to hide the Enabled and KPI filters above the view. Help: Click to launch the context-sensitive help topic.
Solutions tree pane view.	By default, All is selected. The right-side tabular view displays an expanded view of the top-most solution. All can be expanded to see the solution names. The solution name can be expanded to see the version number. The version number can be expanded to see the list of monitor types.
Solutions tabular view.	Solution - By default, the top-most solution is expanded. Click – or + to shrink or expand the solution to view the version details. Version - Click – or + to shrink or expand to view the monitory types. Monitor Type - Click – or + to shrink or expand to view the attribute list. Enabled - The icon indicates the thresholds are enabled. KPI - The icon indicates that the attribute is a key performance indicator (KPI) in the application class. Attribute - There could be more than one attribute for each monitor type.
Thresholds.	Thresholds - Combination of the solution name, monitor type, and attribute name for a selected attribute. A :(colon) is inserted before the attribute name. For example, Amazon Web Service is the solution name and Amazon Web Service Account is the Monitor type, and AWS Connection Status is the attribute name separated by a colon in the figure. Unit of Measurement - Unit of measurement for the selected attribute. For example, for the attribute AWS Connection Status, the status can be either OK or FAIL. For Unused Memory, the measurement is displayed as MB (Mega Bytes), and so on. View - Menu to select the basic or advanced thresholds management views. Basic is the default option. For basic only the absolute thresholds view is available. For advanced all the three types, absolute, signature, and abnormality thresholds views are available.
Absolute Thresholds (Basic and Advanced)	Enable - Selecting allows you add and clearing allows you delete the thresholds. Consequently, modifying any field enables this checkbox with either an add or edit icon displayed. Add, edit, delete icons - Indicates whether the row was marked for add, edit, or delete. Severity - Non-editable. Only the Minor, Major, and Critical severity types are available for the absolute thresholds settings. Duration (min) - Allows you increase or decrease the duration to trigger the event. Comparison - Comparison operator to be used in conjunction with Threshold value. Threshold - Allows you set the threshold value, the point at which the event is triggered. Outside Baseline - Allows you select a baseline from the drop-down list. Predict - By default, this is enabled. Clear the checkbox to stop generating predictive events. Auto Close - By default, this is enabled. Clear the checkbox to prevent TrueSight server from closing the event automatically.
Signature Thresholds (Only Advanced) For an intelligent threshold computation. Abnormality Thresholds (Only Advanced) For doing a probable cause analysis.	Enable - Selecting allows you add and clearing allows you delete the thresholds. Consequently, modifying any field enables this checkbox with either an add or edit icon displayed. Add, edit, delete icons - Indicates whether the row was marked for add, edit, or delete. Severity - Signature - Non-editable. Only the Minor, Major, and Critical severity types are available for the Signature thresholds settings. Two for each severity, one for high and another for low baseline values. Abnormality - Non-editable. Only the Information severity type is available for the abnormality thresholds. Two rows, one for high and one for low baseline values. Info Except for the Severity field, all other fields appear similar in both Signature and Abnormality Thresholds views. Duration (min) Above - Allows you increase or decrease the duration to trigger the event for high baseline limit. Duration (min) Below - Allows you increase or decrease the duration to trigger the event for low baseline limit. Outside Baseline - Allows you select a baseline from the drop-down list. Threshold - Allows you set the threshold value, the point at which the event is triggered. Minimum Sampling Window (min) - Allows you increase or decrease the minimum time to consider for sampling the data points. Absolute Deviation - Allows you set the deviation point in numbers for the threshold to trigger an event. Percent Deviation (%) - Allows you set the deviation point in percentage, instead of a number, for the threshold to trigger an event.
Save and Cancel	Buttons to save the threshold settings or cancel without saving. By default, these buttons appear disabled. The Save button is enabled only when a field in the above thresholds are modified.
