Advanced options for the Web URL monitor

The following table describes advanced options for the monitor:

Web URL monitor advanced options attributes

Attribute

Description

Content matchoptions

Content match option helps to monitor specific items on the Web page and supports only alphanumeric characters.

Positive Match (Error if string is not found)

Specify string for positive content match. The monitor generates an error if it does not find a match (for the specified string) in the page content. To specify multiple text strings, separate strings with semicolons.

Negative Match (Error if string is found)

Specify string for negative content match. The monitor generates an error if it finds a match (for the specified string) in the page content. To specify multiple text strings, separate strings with semicolons.

Source Encoding

This value is used by the Web URL monitor if it is unable to determine the character encoding of the page. Usually, the encoding information is specified in the HTTP response header or in the META tags of the page or both. In these cases, if the specified URL refers to a page that has non-English content, it is necessary to enter the character encoding of the page. Example: Korean encoding specified as euc-kr; Japanese encoding specified as euc-jp or shift-jis.

Full page option

Download Full Page

Select this check box to download the entire page content. Download includes images and other linked components. By default, only text is downloaded.

Fast polloptions

Fast Poll provides a quick check on the availability of the monitored URL. No data is recorded during a fast poll, and fast poll operates without any performance penalty. Fast polls record data only when the availability of the monitored instance changes.

Enable Fast Polling

Select this check box to enable fast polling.

Fast Poll Interval(min)

Specify the time interval between two consecutive fast polls. Default is 10 seconds. Fast Poll is a quick way to check Availability. Because Fast Poll does not need to record data on every poll (which Statistics Poll requires), it can operate without the performance penalty associated with recording data frequently.

Fast Poll Tolerance Count

Specify the number of consecutive unsuccessful poll attempts before recording zero availability for the fast poll. Default is 0.

HTTP proxy options

Use Proxy

Select the check box to access transaction URLs through Integration Service.

Proxy Server

Specify the name or IP address of the computer hosting the Integration Service.

Proxy Port

Specify the port on which the Integration Service is configured to listen for connections.

Proxy User

Specify the user name used to access the Integration Service.

Proxy Password

Specify the password corresponding to the user name.

Statistics polling options

Collect Data

Select or clear check box to enable or disable data collection for the monitored component. By default, data collection is enabled (check box selected).

Poll Interval(min)

Specify the time interval between two consecutive statistical data polls. Default is 2 minutes.

Poll Timeout(min)

Specify the timeout period for each poll of statistical data. If no data is available at the end of this interval, the system records zero availability and proceeds with the next scheduled poll. Default is 1 minute.

Number of Retries

Specify the number of consecutive unsuccessful attempts for recording zero availability for the poll. Default is 1.

Retry Wait(sec)

Specify the time interval between two consecutive attempts of a single poll. Default is 20 seconds.
Web URL monitor follows a staggered retry approach. In this approach, each retry poll is staggered by 10 seconds from the previous poll. For example, if Retry count = 3 and Retry Wait = 5 sec, then
Retry Wait between poll 0 and Retry 1 = 5 sec
Retry Wait between Retry 1 and Retry 2 = 15 sec
Retry Wait between Retry 2 and Retry 3 = 25 sec
The actual poll time will be as follows:
poll 0 end time ----- t0
retry 1 start time ---- t0 + 5
retry 2 start time ---- (retry1 end time) + 15
retry 3 start time ----- (retry 2 end time) + 25

Group tab

Group Membership

This enables you to add a device and its monitors to one or more groups. Optionally, you can associate the device with a group. A group is used to logically organize the devices and monitors by department, geographic area, or service. Assigning a device to a group also enables the system administrator to restrict or allow access to certain devices. To associate the device with a group, select the group name here.
