Upgraded Infrastructure Management Server not registered with the Presentation Server

Issue

While upgrading to Infrastructure Management 10.0, on the TrueSight Presentation Server Integration and Registration page, if you select Yes for the single server or child server upgrade, your upgraded server may not be able to register with the Presentation Server.

Resolution

  1. In the TrueSight console, go to Administration > Components and check the Infrastructure Management Server connection status.
  2. If the status of Infrastructure Management Server is disconnected, log on to the host computer where the Infrastructure Management Server is installed.
  3. Check the status of the cell using the Task Manager (Windows) or the ps -aef | grep mcell command (Linux/Solaris). The output of the ps -aef | grep mcell command is displayed as -n pncell_<cellName> (for example, -n pncell_vl-pun-bpm-qa95).

    • If the cell is not running, perform the following steps:

      1. Delete all files except the mcdb file from the pw\server\var\<cellname>\ (Windows) or pw/server/var/<cellname>/ (Linux/Solaris) directory.
      2. Add the repropagate.mrl file in the pw\server\etc\<cellname>\kb\rules (Windows) or pw/server/etc/<cellname>/kb/rules (Linux/Solaris) folder and compile the cell. For more information, see Knowledge Article KA427335(Support logon ID required).
      3. (Windows) In Services.msc, change the BMC TrueSight Infrastructure management Impact Manager <cellName> service to MANUAL.
      4. On the command prompt, run the mcell command to start the cell and the mgetinfo command to check whether the cell is started:

        mcell -n <cellName> -d

        mgetinfo -n <cellName> -v activity

This command should display the output as Full Activity.

      5. Log in to the host computer where the Presentation Server is installed and restart the BMC TrueSight Presentation Server service.
      6. Verify the data points by running the following commands from the <Presentation Server installation directory>\truesightpserver\bin folder:
        tssh component list

From the component list that is displayed, identify the component ID that corresponds to the Infrastructure Management server.
        tssh component sync <component ID> SYNC_DEVICES
    • If the cell is running, perform the following steps:
      1. Log in to the host computer where the Presentation Server is installed and restart the BMC TrueSight Presentation Server service.
