Configuring Infrastructure Management Converged Infrastructure Monitoring
BMC recommends using BMC Performance Manager for Cisco UCS Manager to configure Infrastructure Management Converged Infrastructure Monitoring.
Using BMC Performance Manager for Cisco UCS Manager to configure Infrastructure Management Converged Infrastructure Monitoring
BMC Performance Manager for Cisco UCS Manager can be of two types:
- Virtual machine aware (VM aware)
This is when Cisco UCS Manager is connected to a vCenter and the vCenter is managing the ESX Servers that are installed on the Cisco UCS blade systems, as shown in the figure below:
- Non-VM aware
- This is when Cisco UCS Manager is not connected to a vCenter, but the vCenter is managing the ESX Servers that are installed on the Cisco UCS blade systems.
In the VM aware setup, you can see only the blade systems that are associated with the ESX Server and its VMs, as shown in the figure below:
In the non-VM aware setup, you can see all the blade systems without the ESX Servers in Cisco UCS Manager, as shown in the figure below:
Configuring Infrastructure Management Converged Infrastructure Monitoring independently
You can also independently configure each of the three KMs that comprise Infrastructure Management Converged Infrastructure Monitoring to monitor an instance to Cisco UCS Manager. BMC recommends that you configure the KMs in the following order:
- Configure BMC Performance Manager for Cisco UCS Manager to monitor Cisco UCS Manager. See Configuring-BMC-Performance-Manager-for-Cisco-UCS-Manager-in-the-PATROL-Console.
- Configure BMC Performance Manager for Cisco Nexus to monitor the Cisco UCS 6100 Series Fabric Interconnects and the gateway.
- Configure BMC Performance Manager for Virtual Servers to monitor the vCenter connected to Cisco UCS Manager.
For information about configuring these KMs, see the Infrastructure Management Converged Infrastructure documentation.
