Converting external cloud constructs into the Infrastructure Management cloud format

The cloud environment introduced the hierarchical structure of nodes in traditional data centers. In the hierarchical structure, elements of the physical infrastructure such as virtual machines (VMs), physical machines, NICs and so on are arranged in hierarchical nodes all the connecting nodes are defined into logical constructs to organize the cloud environment.

The Infrastructure Management cloud framework uses a component called the Infrastructure Management cloud integrator. The cloud integrator consumes logical cloud constructs and their relationships with each other and creates the corresponding topology in the operator console.

Why is the Infrastructure Management cloud integrator required?

The Infrastructure Management cloud integrator is required to convert the cloud constructs of different cloud vendors into a format that can be used by Infrastructure Management.

Benefits of the cloud integrator

By implementing the Infrastructure Management cloud integrator in your cloud environment, you can:

  • View cloud resource hierarchy in the operator console and easily understand and identify your operational issues
  • Aggregate resource performance and obtain a real-time utilization and health measurement of your resource pools, as well as reduce events noise
  • Analyze the health of resource pool in real time to prevent cascading errors and outage storm

Prerequisites for creating the cloud integrator

Before creating the cloud integrator, ensure that you perform the tasks listed below:

  • Identify the different cloud constructs that you want to create in Infrastructure Management
  • Create the topology and relationships on paper.
  • Finalize the configuration items (CIs) and the relationships for the cloud construct topology
  • Identify routing information from the cloud construct
  • Identify the top level node of your construct
