Configuring Infrastructure Management Integrations using the operator console

You can integrate Infrastructure Management with other BMC products by using a post-installation configuration utility that is accessed from the Infrastructure Management operator console.

The following BMC products can be integrated with Infrastructure Management by using the post-installation configuration utility:

Note

Other integrations with BMC products are possible but are not currently available for configuration using the post-installation configuration utility.

Advantages of using the utility

  • Integrate the previously BMC products with Infrastructure Management in a common interface by editing the required parameters for each configuration.
  • Launch the integration interface from the Infrastructure Management operator console and configure all integrations. There is no need to log on to the BMC TrueSight Infrastructure Management Server to enable integrations.
  • Save time during the installation process by performing the integrations after the installation.
  • Save time during server deployments by performing the integrations after the deployments.
  • Make changes to IP addresses and other configuration parameters previously set by launching the integration interface and modifying the required fields.
  • Immediately test the integration for BMC Remedy Service Desk.

Limitations of the utility

  • After an integration is enabled, you cannot disable it through the interface. Active and inactive modes are available only for SSO and LDAP integrations.
  • Testing functionality is available only for BMC Remedy Service Desk. All other integrations validate the data and do no require testing.

Configuring Infrastructure Management integrations

  1. In the operator console, select Options > Administration.

  2. Under Integrations with other BMC Products, click Edit.

    The Configure Infrastructure Management Integrations dialog box displays the available integrations, and their relevant fields values. By default, all integrations are marked for configuration and their configuration fields appear on the screen. If the text fields are populated with values, it means that the integration is enabled. Empty text fields indicate that the integration is not configured.

    You can hide integrations that are not relevant to your installation by clearing the check boxes next to the integration name.

    Note

    When you select or clear one or more integrations, other integrations might be automatically selected or cleared due to shared dependencies.

    In an upgrade scenario, details of the integrations already exist in the database. However, no data validation occurs during an upgrade. To initiate validation, modify the data in the configuration fields. All the fields that are available during installation are also available in the integration screen.

  3. Scroll down and enter the configuration values for the integrations.

  4. Click Apply.
    The system tries to integrate with all the applications for which you have modified the configuration values in one batch. The integration process might take several minutes before completing.

    Verify the success or failure for each integration in the results window that is displayed.

BMC AR Server/CMDB

Input field

Description

AR Server Hostname

Enter the host name of the AR Server.

AR Server Port

Enter the AR Server or CMDB port number. The default is 0. If AR Server is configured with a portmapper, enter 0 in this field. 

AR Server User

Enter the user name required to log on to the AR Server. The default is Demo. This user must have Administrative privileges.

AR Server Password

Enter the password required to log on to the AR Server.

Publishing Mode

Select Single Server or Multiple Server depending on whether you installed Infrastructure Management on a single server or multiple server environment. If you select Multiple Server, the Enterprise parameter in the pserver.conf file is set to True otherwise, it is set to False. The Enterprise parameter enables (T) or disables (F) the enterprise mode of operation.

UDDI Hostname

Enter the host name of the UDDI registry for Atrium CMDB or the name of the Atrium Web Services Server.

UDDI Port

Enter the port number of the UDDI registry for CMDB or the port number of Atrium Web Services server for CMDB.

UDDI User

Enter the UDDI registry user name. The default is admin.

UDDI Password

Enter the UDDI registry password.

BMC TrueSight Infrastructure Management Server Protocol

Select the application protocol. The default protocol is http.

BMC TrueSight Infrastructure Management Server Port

Select the port.

Notes

  • Logs for the CMDB integration are in the integrate_atrium_cmdb.log located at installationDirectory/pw/pronto/logs.
  • If UDDI is configured for HTTPS, set bmc.uddi.registryserver.secure.enabled=true  in the pw\custom\conf\pronet.conf file and restart TrueSight Infrastructure Management server.

BMC Server Automation

Input field

Description

User

Enter the user name for the BMC BladeLogic (also referred to as BMC Server Automation) server.

Password

Enter the password for the BMC BladeLogic server.

User Role

Enter the role that is defined to grant permissions to the BMC Server Automation user. Default is BLAdmins.

Use UDDI

(Optional) Check to display additional UDDI options.
To copy UDDI values from the CMDB integration, you can click Copy CMDB UDDI Values.

UDDI Hostname

(Optional) Enter the host name of the UDDI registry for Atrium CMDB and the name of the Atrium Web Services Server.

UDDI Port

(Optional) Enter the port number of the UDDI registry for CMDB or the port number of Atrium Web Services server for CMDB.

UDDI User

(Optional) Enter the UDDI registry user name. The default is admin.

UDDI Password

(Optional) Enter the UDDI registry password.

Web Services Host

Enter the Web Services host. This field is not displayed if you have selected the Use UDDI option.

Web Services Port

Enter the Web Services port. This field is not displayed if you have selected the Use UDDI option.

You can verify whether the BMC BladeLogic integration is successful by performing the steps listed in the Verifying the BMC Server Automation integration section.

Configuring integration with BMC Atrium Service Context is not included in the utility. For configuring BMC Atrium Service Context, see Integrating BMC Atrium Service Context with Infrastructure Management and Enabling-cross-launch-to-BMC-Atrium-Service-Context.

Verifying the BMC Server Automation integration

  1. In the command line interface, run the pw blade get_setup command. The setup details are displayed, reflecting what you entered in the Configure Infrastructure Management Integrations dialog box.
  2. Run the pw blade test command to test the BMC Server Automation integration.
  3. Return to the Configure Infrastructure Management Integrations dialog box and verify whether the configuration details for BMC Server Automation are still available, which indicates that the integration is active.

You must run the BMC Server Automation auto provisioning packages separately. They are not included in the integration.

BMC Remedy Service Desk

Note

Integration for BMC Remedy Service Desk is installed as part of the Infrastructure Management CMDB Extensions. If you are upgrading from an earlier version of Infrastructure Management, you can use the postinstallation configuration utility to integrate your previously installed version on Integration for BMC Remedy Service Desk.

Input field

Description

Instance Name

Read-only field. The default instance name is displayed.

Form Name

Enter the BMC Remedy Service Desk form name to which events are propagated.
Default is INT:Staging.

Gateway Port

Enter the gateway port number to configure gateway entry in the mcell.dir file.

Gateway Encryption Key

Enter the gateway encryption key to configure gateway entry in the mcell.dir file.

Integration for BMC Remedy Service Desk required you to enable an event management policy that propagates events to BMC Remedy Service Desk. Perform the following steps to enable an event management policy in Infrastructure Management:

  1. Log on to administrator console.
  2. In the Administration tab, click Event Management Policies on the left, and navigate to pncell_<server_name> > By Selector > IBRSD > All Critical Events. Policy details appear on the right.
  3. From the Edit menu, select Edit Policy.
  4. In the Propagation Policy Details tab on the right, select Enabled.

  5. Restart the IBRSD/BMC AR Server service from services.msc that resides on the AR system.

  6. Click Test to test the integration for BMC Remedy Service Desk. A result window appears, indicating the integration status.

    Note

    Start Remedy Service Desk Service Status — Even when the status shows SUCCESS, verify in the services file that the BMC Remedy Service Desk Service is actually running.
    Stop Remedy Service Desk Service Status — If the service is already stopped, the status will show failure. In this case, failure is not a concern.
    Verify that the CMDB configurations were implemented using the validate_atrium_cmdb CLI command.

BMC Atrium Single Sign-On

Input field

Description

Single Sign-On is Active

After it has been integrated, Single Sign-On can be activated or deactivated by selecting or clearing this field.

Atrium SSO Server Hostname.Domain

Enter the fully qualified domain name of the SSO Server.

BMC TrueSight Infrastructure Management Server Hostname.Domain

Enter the fully qualified domain name of the server where BMC TrueSight Infrastructure Management Server is installed.
By default, this field is populated with the host name of the server on which the installer is executed.

Note

Ensure that you enter the FQDN name of the server. If the FQDN name is not entered, a redirection error message might be displayed.

Atrium SSO HTTPS Port

Enter the Atrium SSO secure port number. The default port number is 8443.

Searcher ID

Enter the SSO Searcher ID used to search all user names and groups.

Searcher Password

Enter the password of the Searcher ID user.

Atrium SSO AmAdmin Password

Enter the Atrium SSO Server AmAdmin password.

Administrative User Group

Specify the user group that is to be created on Infrastructure Management and assigned Super Administrator privileges. This user group must also be present on BMC Atrium SSO.

Verifying a successful Single Sign-On integration

  1. Launch the Infrastructure Management operator console. The BMC Atrium SSO login screen is displayed, showing that single sign-on has been activated.
  2. Log on using your user name and password.

The operator console opens immediately, and no further authentication is required until logging out.

LDAP

Input field

Description

LDAP Integration is Active

Allows you to activate and deactivate the LDAP or Active Directory Server after it is integrated successfully.

LDAP Alias

Alias name for the LDAP or Active Directory Server that is generated automatically by the system. You can also modify the name.

LDAP Protocol Version

LDAP protocol version number. The most recent version is 3.

Note

BMC recommends that you use the default LDAP version unless you have a very old LDAP implementation.

Hostname

Fully qualified host name or the IP address of the LDAP or Active Directory server. You can verify the connection between the LDAP/ Active Directory server and the BMC TrueSight Infrastructure Management Server by using the ping command.

Port

Port number to connect to the LDAP or Active Directory server. The default non-secure port number is 389. The default secure (SSL) port number is 636.

Base DN

The top-level directory of the LDAP or Active Directory structure. This is the base fully qualified Distinguished Name (DN). The Distinguished Name represents an object and a path to the object in the directory hierarchical namespace. Objects are ordered from the most specific to the least specific.

User DN

Fully qualified distinguished name of the user which connects to the LDAP or Active Directory server.

Password

Authentication password (encrypted) that is used to connect to the LDAP or Active Directory server.

Note

Set the encrypted attribute to false and then enter the password in plain text. Restart TrueSight Infrastructure Management server. When Internet Authentication Service (IAS) restarts, it encrypts the password and changes the encrypted attribute value from false to true. You can open the ldap_configuration.xml file and verify that the encrypted attribute is set to true and the encrypted password is in the file.

Use SSL

Indicates whether the LDAP or Active Directory authentication is using the SSL protocol.

Note

For SSL connection, you must perform additional configuration steps before testing or saving this configuration. For more information on the additional configuration steps, see SSL authentication in Configuring-the-system-for-external-authentication.

User ID Attribute

LDAP or Active Directory attribute in the user entry that contains the login ID.

User Search Filter

Search filter that the LDAP or Active Directory server uses to look up a user entry.

Group Search Filter

Search filter that the LDAP or Active Directory server uses to look up a user group entry.

Delete LDAP Server

Deletes the current LDAP or Active Directory server.

BMC TrueSight IT Data Analytics

You can see the list of host names and port numbers of the IT Data Analytics servers integrated with that Infrastructure Management Performance Management servers.

This action is for read-only purposes only. BMC recommends you to not make any changes on the Configure Integrations dialog box for the BMC TrueSight IT Data Analytics instance.

For making any configuration changes, you need to log on to BMC TrueSight IT Data Analytics and navigate to Administration > External Configurations.
