Integrating with TrueSight Presentation Server

This topic provides information about integrating with TrueSight Presentation Server to collect and analyze event data.

Notes

  • An integration with TrueSight Presentation Server is an integration with the TrueSight Infrastructure Management component that is registered with TrueSight Presentation Server.
  • Unlike other integrations, this integration requires you to register details of the TrueSight IT Data Analytics server on TrueSight Presentation Server (or TrueSight console).

At a high level, this integration helps you perform the following functions:

  • Get events from TrueSight Presentation Server.
  • Send events to TrueSight Presentation Server while creating notifications.
  • Cross-launch from TrueSight Presentation Server into TrueSight IT Data Analytics.

To see all the features (or capabilities) supported with this integration, see the compatibility matrix at Integrating.

Note

The metrics chart is not displayed for events that are generated from the integrated TrueSight Presentation Server.

Key steps to an effective integration

The high-level steps involved in performing this integration and enabling the functions available with the integration are described in the following table:

  • Enable Remedy Single Sign-On to communicate with TrueSight IT Data Analytics .
  • Register details of the TrueSight IT Data Analytics  server on the TrueSight console.
This configuration is required for performing the various functions available with this integration.

Integration process

To integrate TrueSight Presentation Server with TrueSight IT Data Analytics, you need to perform the following functions:

  • Enable Remedy Single Sign-On to communicate with TrueSight IT Data Analytics.
  • Register details of the TrueSight IT Data Analytics server on the TrueSight console.
This configuration is required for performing the various functions available with this integration..

    Notes

    • Unless you use Remedy Single Sign-On for user authentication, you cannot use TrueSight IT Data Analytics in conjunction with TrueSight Presentation Server.
    • It is important that you configure the same Remedy Single Sign-On server that you are using with TrueSight Presentation Server.

An integration with TrueSight Presentation Server involves an integration with TrueSight Infrastructure Management registered with TrueSight Presentation Server. When you integrate TrueSight IT Data Analytics with TrueSight Presentation Server, TrueSight Infrastructure Management cells get listed on TrueSight IT Data Analytics. You can see the cells listed by navigating to Administration > External Configurations, selecting the external configuration (which was automatically created after the integration), and clicking View External Configuration view icon.jpg. You can use these cells to achieve the following goals:

  • Get events from TrueSight Operations Management.
  • Send events to TrueSight Operations Management.

The following information provides details about registering details of the TrueSight IT Data Analytics server on the TrueSight Presentation Server.

Before you begin

To integrate with TrueSight Presentation Server

  1. Access the TrueSight Console.
For more information, see Accessing and navigating the TrueSight console.

  2. From the navigation menu TS_navmenu.jpg, go to Administration > Components.
  3. On the Components page, click the action menu and select Add Component.

Select IT Data Analytics Server and enter the following details:

  4. Verify if the integration completed successfully.

To do this, log on to TrueSight IT Data Analytics, navigate to Administration > External Configurations, and verify if there is an entry with the external configuration, "TrueSight Presentation Server". Note that the Presentation Server hosts the web-based console functions of the TrueSight console.

Also, after you integrate, TrueSight Infrastructure Management cells get automatically listed in the external configuration, which is created on TrueSight IT Data Analytics. You can see the cells listed on TrueSight IT Data Analytics by navigating to Administration > External Configurations, selecting the external configuration (which was automatically created after the integration), and then clicking View External Configuration view icon.jpg.

You might want to see some troubleshooting scenarios regarding the integration. For more information, see Troubleshooting-common-issues.

Notes

The following notes are important to keep in mind before deleting the TrueSight IT Data Analytics registration details:

  • Ensure that you delete any data collectors or notifications on TrueSight IT Data Analytics that are still communicating with the TrueSight Presentation Server.
  • Ensure that TrueSight IT Data Analytics is up and running.

This is important because otherwise the external configuration created on TrueSight IT Data Analytics might not be deleted after you delete the component registration on the TrueSight Presentation Server. If the external configuration still continues to show on TrueSight IT Data Analytics, you can run a CLI command on TrueSight IT Data Analytics to delete the external configuration. For more information, see CLI command in Log Analytics.

Cross-launching from the TrueSight console

To enable cross-launch from the TrueSight console into TrueSight IT Data Analytics, you must first register details of the TrueSight IT Data Analytics Server with TrueSight Presentation Server (on the TrueSight console). For more information, see the integration process.

You can cross-launch into TrueSight IT Data Analytics from applications and events available on the TrueSight console. Before you cross-launch into TrueSight IT Data Analytics, it is important that you create a data collector for the following items:

  • Each device (host) included in the application from which you want to cross-launch.
  • Each host associated with the event from which you want to cross-launch.

Data collectors are objects that help you collect data records (or events) from the target hosts and make it available for search and analysis. For more information, see Collecting-data-into-the-system. Creating data collectors beforehand ensures that you can search events after you cross-launch from the TrueSight console into TrueSight IT Data Analytics.

Where to go from here

Create data collectors to start the collection of event data from TrueSight Presentation Server. For more information, see Monitor using external configuration data collector.

Create notifications on the event data collected and subsequently log events on TrueSight Presentation Server. For more information, see Setting-up-notifications-to-create-alerts-or-reports.
