Using the iDrac

Accessing the system by using the iDrac involves ensuring that the iDrac has an IP address and then connecting to it remotely so that you can access the system CLI.

To access the system iDrac, you must configure an IP address for it.

By default, the iDrac tries to get an IP address by using DHCP when it is installed in your data center and connected to your network through the iDrac port on the rear of the device. When an IP address is found, the LCD screen on the front of the device displays the IP address.

Note

If your network does not support DHCP, you can manually configure the IP address of the iDrac by using the buttons and menus displayed on the LCD screen. For more information about configuring the IP address of iDrac, see the relevant documentation from Dell.

To connect to the iDrac remotely

  1. Using a web browser, connect to the IP address that you configured for the iDrac.
  2. Log on to the iDrac with the default user name root and password calvin.

    Recommendation

BMC recommends that you change the default user name and password immediately. Should you lose the new password, perform the steps under To reset the system defaults.

  3. In the Virtual Console Preview panel, click Launch
  4. After the virtual console has been launched, log in with user name cliuser and password coradiant.

To reset the system defaults

If you lose the new password, BMC Customer Support cannot recover it for you, and you must perform the following steps:

  1. Reboot the server, and press F2 to enter the System Setup.
  2. On the System Setup screen, go to Idrac>Reset iDRAC to defaults.
  3. After the reset process is finished, reboot the server and press F2 to return to system setup to reconfigure the iDRAC.
  4. On the iDRAC menu, select the network setting and configure the IP address.
