BMC TS-4200 series hardware appliance
The TS-4200 series hardware appliance is designed so that you can start using it right away. The information in this section describes how to perform the initial configuration activities.
Getting started with the TS-4200 series involves performing the following activities:
Inspecting included Ethernet cables
The BMC TrueSight End User Monitor 4200 Series is shipped with the following cables for you to use:
- Four white, standard, Category 6 Ethernet cables for setting up traffic capture
- One blue, standard, Category 6 Ethernet cable for managing the device
Inspecting network ports
The TS-4200 series has the following network ports on the back of the device:
Four capture ports dedicated to traffic capture
- One management port for managing the device, for example, to perform initial configuration tasks via the CLI. You must also use this port to feed external devices that rely on system data.
- One spare port that can be configured as either a traffic capture port or a management port using the sparenic command in the system CLI.

Preparing the system for users
Before using the system, you must connect the TS-4200 series to a terminal, perform some device configuration tasks, and connect to a network and to traffic sources. You must perform these tasks only when you set up the device for the first time.
