Connecting to the network

This topic describes how to connect the TS-4200 series to your network for remote management and regular use.

The system typically interfaces with the following user types:

  • Operators log in using a web browser and navigate the system's dashboards, reports, and analysis tools.
  • Enterprise management software (EMS) applications use the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) to retrieve the health of users, functions, or servers at regular intervals.
  • Extract, transform, and load (ETL) tools download raw data in table format using HTTPS. Comma-separated data is then inserted into databases for offline analysis with Online Analytical Processing (OLAP) or business intelligence (BI) tools.

Before you begin

You must have completed the tasks described in setting up traffic capture.

To connect the device to a switch or router

  1. Connect one end of the white straight-through Ethernet cable to the management port the back of the appliance.
  2. Connect the other end to the switch or router that links to the system's network segment.

Initial configuration of the TS-4200 series is complete.

Where to go from here

You can now log into the system by accessing the IP address that was configured in the initial configuration tasks.

For information about how to administer and use the system, see the documents in the PDFs topic or access the BMC Real End User Experience Monitoring documentation at https://docs.bmc.com/docs/display/public/EUEM20/Home
