Hyper-V Overview

The Hyper-V Overview page contains sub-views that provide details on Hyper-V clusters, hosts and partitions. You can use these Hyper-V views to manage the capacity of Hyper-V hosts belonging to a cluster, identify Hyper-V VMs that can be added to clusters, manage Hyper-V partitions, view the Hyper-V infrastructure view treemap, and much more. The Hyper-V Partitions view, for instance, presents the resource allocation and usage pattern for all partitions in the host. Detailed views allow you to see a time series chart of the key metrics for the last 30 days, and the Maps tab provides a graphical representation of the Hyper-V capacity.

You can filter and classify the data displayed in the view as per your requirement, with the help of various data filters that are located at the top of the view. For more information, see Using-filtering-options-in-the-TrueSight-console.

To access Hyper-V Overview in the TrueSight console, in the navigation panel, select Menu_big.png > Capacity > Views > Virtualization > Hyper-V > Overview.

CPU Utilization %

Modify the required values for displaying the threshold values for the CPU utilization in the Maps page of the Hyper-V Overview view:

  • In the Low Threshold box, edit the threshold value for CPU utilization in percentage. The entities with capacity starting from 0 to value below the value in this box are displayed in the shades of blue color.
  • In the Good Threshold box, edit the threshold value for CPU utilization in percentage. The entities with capacity starting from the value in the Low Threshold box to the value below the value in this box are displayed in the shades of green color.
  • In the Warn Threshold box, edit the threshold value for CPU utilization in percentage. The entities with capacity starting from the value in the Good Threshold box to the value below the value in this box are displayed in the shades of yellow color.
The entities with capacity above the value in the Warn Threshold box are displayed in the shades of red color.

Show Benchmark Type

Edit the required Benchmark Type in the box. Use the subresource for resource BYBENCHMARK_VALUE.

Optimization Behavior

Optimization behavior

Description

Aggressive

Resource utilization in the server is computed by considering the average value of hourly samples. Spikes in the resource utilization within the hour are not considered. Then, 95th percentile of the hourly value over the last 30 days is computed for each resource to generate the configuration of the target virtual machine or instance type.

This optimization behavior does not require the server to be instrumented because granular or detailed metrics are not used for the computation.

Balanced (Default)

Resource utilization in the server is computed by considering the 90th percentile value of hourly samples. Only 10% of spikes in the utilization within the hour are not considered. Then, 95th percentile of the hourly value over the last 30 days is computed for each resource to generate the configuration of the target virtual machine or instance type.

This optimization behavior requires the server to be instrumented to collect the granular or detailed metrics.

Conservative

Resource utilization in the server is computed by considering the 99th percentile value of hourly samples. Only 1% of spikes in the utilization within the hour are not considered. Then, 95th percentile of the hourly value over the last 30 days is computed for each resource to generate the configuration of the target virtual machine or instance type.

This optimization behavior requires the server to be instrumented to collect the granular or detailed metrics.

Information

If you select the Conservative or Balanced optimization behavior for a server that is not instrumented, the results are based on the Aggressive behavior.

BMC recommends the Conservative behavior for servers that are running business-critical applications.

Optimizer Thresholds

Click the link to modify the threshold of a metric or an indicator. The Thresholds page in the TrueSight Capacity Optimization console opens in a new browser tab or window. For more information about configuring the thresholds, see Configuring-and-managing-thresholds-for-metrics-and-indicators.
