Prerequisites
Ensure that the administrator has completed the following tasks:
For information about views in the TrueSight console, see Accessing-and-using-capacity-views-in-the-TrueSight-console.
Certified data sources
The certified data sources for these views are as follows:
- BMC - TrueSight Capacity Optimization Gateway VIS files parser
- VMware - vCenter Extractor Service
- VMware - vCenter and ESX Server History Extractor
You must configure and run one of these ETL modules to import data into the view. For more information, see BMC-TrueSight-Capacity-Optimization-Gateway-VIS-files-parser and VMware-vCenter-ETLs.

Video
The following video (4:10) provides a brief introduction of the Datacenter views.
Using the Datacenter Overview view
The Datacenter Overview view is split into following pages:
- Physical Servers: The Physical Servers page in the Datacenter Overview view provides an overview of the utilization of all physical servers in your environment.
- Virtual Machines: The Virtual Machines page in the Datacenter Overview view provides an overview of the utilization of all Virtual Machines in your environment.
- Clusters: The Clusters page in the Datacenter Overview view provides an overview of the utilization of all clusters in your environment.
Each view page is further split into the following two sections:
- CPU Util
- Memory Util

Filtering the Map based on Overviews
The Datacenter Overview enables you to filter and view datacenter details based on the following overviews:
- Domain (default): Displays the tree map where each block in the tree map represents a configured domain.
- Business Service: Displays the tree map where each block in the tree map represents a business services.
- Organization: Displays the heat map where each block in the tree map represents an organization.
- Location Site: Displays the tree map where each block in the tree map represents a physical location of a system in the datacenter.
You can use the Overview filter independently, or in combination with other filters present in the view page.
Reading the tree map in Datacenter Overview view
Each outer rectangle represents the parent entity and the inner rectangles are the child entities, as shown in the following image:
The size of the cells denotes the capacity size on that entity.
The color of the cells denotes the usage percentage of that entity, with white indicating no usage and red indicating high usage. The color legend is displayed at the top of the tree map, as shown in the following image:
To view entities with free resources
By default, the tree map does not show the free resources of entities. To view the free resources that are available, you must change the map layout.
In the Datacenter Overview view, click next to Map Layout and click Map Layout with Free Resource.
The Datacenter Overview shows the free resources, as denoted by the white color:
To view details of an entity
You can drill down further into each entity for more details. To view the details, do the following:
Click the required entity.
A Details popup window opens. It lists the Name, Type, Utilization (%) and Size of the entity, along with Drill Down links.
Similarly, you can view the details of each child entity within a parent entity.
To perform drill down of the required entity
You can perform drill down of an entity to view more details of the required entity and not display the others. To do this, do one of the following:
- Double-click the required entity.
- Click the parent cell. In the Details popup window that opens, click the Drill Down link.
The following graphic shows how to perform drill down to view entities with high utilization.
Navigate back to the parent entity
In the child entity page, the navigation path from the source section is listed at the the top-left of the tree map. Click the parent entity name in the listed path to go to that entity.
Using time filters in Datacenter Overview view
You can view data for predefined defined time periods. By default, data for the Last 30 days is shown. To view data for a different time period, use the available time filters.
In the Treemap view, click the action menu next to the time filter and select a time period as shown in the following image:
You can select from the following options:
- Yesterday
- Last 7 days
- Last 30 days
Data for the selected time period is displayed.
