Reading a tree map view
A heat map (or heatmap) is a graphical representation of data where the individual values contained in a matrix are represented as colors. In TrueSight Capacity Optimization a tree map (i.e. similar to a heat map) view is a space-filling visualization view that displays data in a hierarchical structure. It is based on the concept of heatmap. It displays hierarchical or tree-structured data as a set of nested rectangles. It is especially effective in revealing attributes of nodes using size and color coding.
Overview of a tree map view
Each outer rectangle in a tree map view represents the parent entity. The rectangles within the parent entity are the child entities, as shown in the following image:
The size of the cells denotes the capacity size on that entity.
The color of the cells denotes the usage percentage of that entity, with white indicating no usage and red indicating high usage.
To view entities with free resources
By default, the tree map does not show the free resources of entities. To view the free resources that are available, you must change the map layout.
In the Tree map view, click next to Map Layout and click Map Layout with Free Resource.
The tree map shows the free resources, as denoted by the white color:
To view details of an entity
You can drill down further into each entity for more details. To view the details, do the following:
Click the entity.
A Details popup window opens. It lists the Name, Type, Utilization (%) and Size of the entity, along with Related Information links.
Similarly, you can view the details of each child entity within a parent entity.
To view only one entity on the screen
You can focus only on one entity at a time and not display the others. To do this, do one of the following:
- Double-click that entity.
- Click the parent cell. In the Details popup window that opens, under Related Information, click the Drill Down link.
Only the selected entity is displayed on the screen.
To navigate back to the parent entity
In the child entity page, the navigation path from the source Tree map view is listed at the the top-left of the tree map. Click the parent entity name in the listed path to go to that entity.
To view all entities within the same range
In the Tree map view, you can view all entities that are in the same range.
To view the entities in the same range, click a color legend. For example, click 10%.
Only entities within the same range are displayed. In this case all entities in the 0-10% range are displayed.
To use time filters in a tree map view
You can view data for predefined time periods. By default, data for the Last 30 days is shown. To view data for a different time period, use the available time filters.
In the Tree map view, click the action menu next to the time filter and select a time period as shown in the following image:
You can select from the following options:
- Yesterday
- Last 7 days
- Last 30 days
Data for the selected time period is displayed.
