Creating a new Study Profile

Study profiles can be created for using as the base for a consolidation study.

Study Profiles contain two types of information:

  • Virtualization parameters which affect what operating systems can be virtualized, and some performance thresholds and overhead
  • Hardware configuration information for the new virtual hosts

These settings appear on the Create Study Profile, Edit Study Profile, and Copy Study Profile pages.

To create a new Study Profile

  1. On the Study Profiles page, click Create Profile.
  2. On the Create Study Profiles page, specify a profile name and short description.
  3. Specify the default virtualization parameters for the study. For more information, see Changing-virtualization-parameters-for-a-virtualization-study. You also need to specify values for the following fields:

    3. Host OS Type: Select an operating system type for the host.
  4. Click Change CPU Model to display the Hardware Selector page, where you can specify the CPU model for the virtual host server. For more information, see Changing-target-hardware-in-a-virtualization-study.
  5. Click Save.
