Preparing to upgrade the Gateway Server
Before upgrading the Gateway Server, ensure that your environment meets the upgrade requirements, and complete the tasks described in this section.
Preparing to upgrade the Gateway Server on Windows
- Ensure that the user account you are using for upgrading the Gateway Server has administrator rights. To grant administrator rights, contact your system administrator.
- If you are using an NTFS directory, verify that a SYSTEM user has the read, write, and execute permissions on the directory where you plan to install the Gateway Server (The default installation directory is C:\Program Files\BMC Software\Patrol3\BEST1\NTC).
- Ensure that the available temporary disk space is greater than 500 MB. The Gateway Server installer uses the following environment variables in the listed order to access this space:
- %TMP% environment variable
- %TEMP% environment variable
- BMC recommends configuring the Terminal Services on systems to prevent the installer from deleting the temporary folder while exiting installation, and also to ensure that the installer does not use temporary folders for each session.
Preparing to upgrade the Gateway Server on Linux
- Ensure that you are using a non-privileged and non-root user account for upgrading the Gateway Server. For information about creating this user account, contact your system administrator.
- During the installation, the installation program requires tmp space equal to about twice the size of the installation program. Without the required space, errors can occur which can impact the success of the installation. As a general guideline, you need at least 512 MB of free tmp space.
If you run the installation program and tmp does not have sufficient space, it results in an error. You can configure an alternate tmp directory using the $IATEMPDIR environment variable.
For example, $ IATEMPDIR=/your/temp/space/directory
- The Gateway Server installer uses the following environment variables in the listed order to access this space:
- $IATEMPDIR environment variable
- /tmp
- Your home directory
