20.02 enhancements

This page contains information about the TrueSight Smart Reporting - Platform enhancements.

Enhanced reporting capabilities

Advanced reporting capabilities using TrueSight Smart Reporting - Platform

TrueSight Capacity Optimization now offers a new way to create, administer, and publish custom advanced reports when integrated with TrueSight Smart Reporting - Platform. For details on integration, see Integrating-with-TrueSight-Smart-Reporting.

TrueSight Smart Reporting - Platform is a web-based reporting application that provides extensive reporting capabilities for the entities that are managed by TrueSight Capacity Optimization. It provides live editing of a report template using web browser, live preview, and easy customization of all aspects of a report. It also provides advanced report distribution options, including the alert-based broadcast.

TrueSight Smart Reporting - Platform is available as a separately licensed product. To use the reporting capabilities in TrueSight Smart Reporting - Platform, you must purchase a license for it.

For details, see Managing-reports-using-TrueSight-Smart-Reporting.

New Summary Data Mart wizard to create custom data marts

Using the new Summary Data Mart wizard, you can build a custom data mart to retrieve the data according to your requirements. This simple and easy-to-use wizard allows you to create data marts using the necessary metrics without requiring a knowledge of SQLs. This custom data mart can then be used in a custom view or report.

For details, see Creating-a-summary-data-mart-for-a-custom-view-or-report.

New chart sizing options for charts in capacity views

You can now maximize or minimize any chart in the capacity views. When maximized, the chart is displayed in the full-screen mode. For details, see Managing-charts.

Service-aware planning with extended lookback and forecasting duration

You can now extend the forecasted days to saturation analysis window in the Business-Services-view to 180 days. This can be achieved by using the Use long term data to compute indicators parameter added for the Days to Saturation indicator in the Thresholds page. In this parameter, you can configure lookback duration upto 18 months.

For details, see Indicators.

Improved User Experience

Timezone user preferences for Investigate

The Investigate Tool now allows you to view data in different timezones in investigate studies. This can be achieved using the new options added in the Settings page at the Investigate Study level. For details, see Creating-and-managing-Investigate-Studies.

Introducing Self-help

Embedded self-help is available in this release of TrueSight Capacity Optimization. It provides guided assistance that helps you learn to navigate the product and complete tasks. From the Self-help pane, you can access relevant quick tours, links to documentation help topics, and videos.

The following screenshot shows the Self-help pane that is available while working in the Administration tab:

New API for Agent Data

Agent Data REST API analyzes real-time data and historical data to address any capacity and performance issues in your environment. For details, see Agent-Data-API.

Support for Pivotal Cloud Foundry

New ETL to import data from Pivotal Cloud Foundry

TrueSight Capacity Optimization now supports Pivotal Cloud Foundry, a unified, multi-cloud platform to manage enterprise applications at scale. The Pivotal CF - Integrator enables you to extract capacity metrics from both Pivotal Cloud Foundry component VMs and Applications manager.

The integration supports the following use cases:

  • Component VMs defined in the Pivotal Cloud Foundry platform will be imported to allow monitoring and forecasting of future node status
  • VMs that are part of the major Pivotal Cloud Foundry Diego compartment will be collected, providing a capacity overview of the key components of Pivotal Cloud Foundry
  • Application topology discovered by Pivotal Cloud Foundry will be collected. The use of this up-to-date application structure data in analysis and models will increase the capacity management process efficiency.
  • Capacity-relevant information imported at different levels of aggregation (foundation, domains)

For details, see Moviri-Integrator-for-TrueSight-Capacity-Optimization-Pivotal-Cloud-Foundry.

New out-of-the-box view for Pivotal Cloud Foundry

The new, out-of-the-box, Pivotal Cloud Foundry view enables you to manage the capacity and efficiency of containerized environment and applications, VMs, and infrastructure level. You can:

  • Understand resource bottlenecks and aggregate residual capacity of Pivotal Cloud foundry Diego cells and other virtual machines
  • Detect current or imminent resource saturation conditions and days before the resource is saturated for every major Pivotal Cloud Foundry resource
  • Assess the level of infrastructure efficiency by comparing allocated vs utilized resources, and identify at-risk virtual machine or applications
  • Identify applications in resource usage patterns and detect resource shortage conditions

For details, see Pivotal-Cloud-Foundry-View.

Extended coverage for data collection

New ETL to import data from the Nutanix Acropolis Hypervisor

The new Nutanix-Prism-API-Extractor-for-AHV ETL enables you to collect configuration and performance data of the Nutanix Acropolis Hypervisor entities. You can use this ETL to collect metrics from the following entities:

  • Cluster
  • Host
  • Virtual Machine
  • Storage Pool

ETL module enhancements

The following ETL modules are enhanced to support new features and additional metrics:
